Guest Victor von Zeppelin Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 The most recent version of Android – 4.0.4 – has been published to the AOSP. The new version brings fixes and new features, such as (copied from Google on their G+ page): QuoteStability improvements, better camera performance, smoother screen rotation, improved phone number recognition and more. Also interesting is that a rollout of 4.0.4 has started for Google Experience devices. Currently the list of updated devices stands as: GSM Nexus SXoom WiFiGSM Galaxy Nexus The fact that all three recent Google experience devices are supported is good, especially as the Galaxy Nexus was still stuck on 4.0.2, and the Nexus S’s 4.0.3 was a complete farce. It is worth noting though, that to update the Nexus S you must have stock 4.0.3 already installed. Now that 4.0.4 is available on AOSP, expect to start seeing it in popular ROMs, such as CM9 and AOKP. Guest tonyfrance Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 My GSM Nexus S (unrooted) updated successfully last week here in France and all seems O.K. so far. I'd like to make 2 points. 1) What's all the fuss about ICS? After getting very frustrated that it took Google over 3 months to sort out teething problems, I eagerly awaited ICS - after all the hype, to say I'm totally underwhelmed is a bit of an understatement. New font - big deal, contacts/people slightly improved, tiling/grouping apps is a waste of time, seems no more stable or faster than Gingerbread. As regards other improvements like seeing recent apps, swiping to clear notifications etc, they're no big deal either, as on rooted devices you have been able to do that for ages in Gingerbread. So to people still waiting, I'd say you're not missing much. 2) I must disagree with the statement " to update the Nexus S you must have stock 4.0.3 already installed", as I upgraded straight from 2.3.6 and to end on a positive note the upgrade was extremely fast and smooth, no problems and no data loss.
