Guest Victor von Zeppelin Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 There was a bit of an uproar when Samsung announced their ICS plans as the OS launched in November. Most of their newer devices, including tablets and the Galaxy S II would be getting Android 4, but anything else older or lower specced wouldn’t – including devices like the Galaxy W, a device not many have heard of and a pretty decent midfield contender that only came out last autumn. Samsung’s excuse for the poor showing of updates seems to be based around RAM. But if the Nexus S can demonstrably handle ICS, why can’t the Galaxy S which has identical hardware? The problem seems to be the Touchwiz skin that Samsung seems adamant to keep, so I guess that’s what you have to make do with. So in reaction, Samsung unveiled the Value Pack – an update to 2.3.6 with some extra features from ICS rolled back in. These include: Galaxy Note Lock Screen Face UnlockPhoto Editor from SGS IIMaking photos while recording videosFaster and better cameraFaster Auto-Rotation So... nothing to really get excited about. You still have to put up with TouchWiz 3, and cry a little every time when you realise that your device isn’t running ICS. The update is rolling out now OTA or through Kies for the Galaxy S, and should be coming soon to other devices, such as the Galaxy W (which is seeing rollout in Slovakia and Romania). Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 I guess I won't ever be buying a Samsung then. Some would question the value of that value pack.
