Guest subzer0wbb Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Looks and sounds great, no expandable storage may be a problem for me (which is why I hate the iPhone), but if the battery life is good it may be a winner.
Guest Albert Poon Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hey Paul, finally we are on the same boat again since Desire! The only issue troubling me is the camera lens - is it easily scratched? I remember back in the days I replaced the Desire back case 3 times because of the scratches! Any confirmation that it is also made with the corning gorilla glass? Cheers, Albert
Guest Royki Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi Paul, Nice review, I own an HTC Desire HD (which I bought trough this site's bundle offering with superetrader.co.uk 2 years ago) few Q's Question 1. - Is One X is much better than the DHD - battery wise Q2 - Are you gonna make a bundle again to buy the One X ? Q3 - Is one of your ROMs tweaking the battery life on the DHD ? (I didnt root it till today... and I wonder should I?) Thanks Roy

Guest fredchia123 Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 For the GPS, do I have to subscribe to the service or data plan in order to use? Or is it similar to Garmin or any other GPS device which does not require any data plan or subscription?
Guest martinpe Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Very nicely illustrated and informative review! The first device from HTC I ever owned was the Flyer tablet, and what a disappointment that has been! Whilst reading this review, my Flyer-quenched HTC enthusiasm was steadily getting back onto the road to recovery until I read the "no microSD" & "Fixed battery" comments. Those are deal-breakers to me! Whilst converting my wife's HTC HD2 to Android, I had a bit of a glitch and I would have had major problems if I wasn't able to remove the battery! This is also a concern on my Flyer with its fixed battery. Judging from the public interest in the Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC are in for some tough times ahead!
Guest Nazgulled Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Thanks for the answers Paul, a last one, for now... On the Car app with those big buttons, does it work ok with third-party apps, for instance, for the dialer or music?
Guest amaya Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi Paul How is for make a Screenshot? As the Galaxy Nexus? Vol. Down + Power? Thanks ;)

I remember back in the days I replaced the Desire back case 3 times because of the scratches! Any confirmation that it is also made with the corning gorilla glass? It looks vulnerable, position wise. I see nothing to suggest it is also gorilla glass. Question 1. - Is One X is much better than the DHD - battery wise Q2 - Are you gonna make a bundle again to buy the One X ? Q3 - Is one of your ROMs tweaking the battery life on the DHD ? (I didnt root it till today... and I wonder should I?) Q1 - Most things are better than the DHD no? :) Q2 - No, sorry! Q3 - Maybe in the future, not currently. For the GPS, do I have to subscribe to the service or data plan in order to use? Or is it similar to Garmin or any other GPS device which does not require any data plan or subscription? No, it's standalone. P
Guest fredchia123 Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi Paul, thanks for the prompt reply. Can you please elaborate on the bugs issue that you have encounter, esp on the typos? For the issue with the initial orientation sensing on the Camera application, do you mean to say upon activating the application in the menu or? Thanks.
Guest sterallures Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) A very interesting and detailed review, learned alot about the device reading it. I can't wait to get one!! I just had a question which I didn't read about in the review (or maybe I just missed it). On my current HTC Sensation there's a "physical" search button (bottom right), I just it alot, almost everytime I start an application I use to search button to start it. I know the Samsung Galaxy S II also has a search button if you long press one of the keys, is this also the case with the new HTC One X? can you long press a "physical" button to get the search menu up, and if that's true, which button? I'll try it and let you know. Hi Paul How is for make a Screenshot? As the Galaxy Nexus? Vol. Down + Power? Thanks ;) Yes, that's an ICS standard. Guest MZaza Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 @Paul I had HTC Desire, and I loved the material it was built from however it was plastic. Whenever I had a scratch on the back I just used to rub it and it just disappears. Then I bought Droid RAZR which it's back was built from Kelvar fabrics which was pretty strong and durable but the plastic bezel around the Kelvar used to get scratches from just putting my phone on the desk or accidentally moving it while it's on the desk. So, I sold it because after 2 months it looked older than my 2 years old Desire. So one thing I want to be sure about in the One X, is it durable against scratches like my old Desire? I mean is the polycarbonite material used on the back and the glossy edges durable against scratches? That's a breaking point for me.
Guest amaya Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Yes, that's an ICS standard. Thank you B)

I have a question though: can you access the bootloader easily? As far as I know (at least on the Sensation), when you restart or turn the phone off, it's like a sleep and when you turn it on, it doesn't start from scratch, I take the battery off if I want to manually access the bootloader but with no removable battery, how is it? Did you try? f.

Did you try? It's very easy. You can do a full power off by pressing-holding power, then load bootloader. No problem. P
Guest Xmoo Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) Some site's say there is a 1.27 or 1.28 OTA... Do you know anything about it? Edited April 3, 2012 by Xmoo

Guest fredchia123 Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Between HTC One X & Sony Xperia S, which is a better in terms of performance, and also the cam (quality of photos taken - more natural & sharp)?
Guest baley Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi Paul, I mostly agree with your review, aside that bit on Sense 4.0. I never used any HTC device but the menus looks very gingerbreadish to me. If I were to buy this phone I would probably wait for a Cyanogenmod to appear first. The lock-screen is more practical for sure (not prettier though). What I am wondering is though, why can't they just make a smaller device with a more powerful processor. The One S is fast (and also nice to look at) but its not exactly what you call small and the One V is hardly an upgrade from my current SGS either. I wonder if there is a market for a smaller device (at most 4.0") with a powerful cpu that is not an iphone!
Guest Tariqali Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi wheiiinru say it's got 2gig of internal memory, can it be increased. Because i'm coming from the desire which had 147 mb of internal memory which was always running out. Will it be the same or can the rest of the memory be used for apps.
Guest Tariqali Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Sorry I got my toung in a twist, I meant to say when you said it's got 2gig of internal memory
Guest Nazgulled Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I wonder if there is a market for a smaller device (at most 4.0") with a powerful cpu that is not an iphone! I believe so, I would buy that... These bigger phones are not my cup of tea. Unfortunately I don't seem to have a choice lately.
Guest zanzzan Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks for the review. I have purchased the HTC One X and liking it a lot. I had the SGS2 and while I'm interested in seeing what the SGS3 would be like there's still no information about it so there's no choice. I really appreciated the tip about disabling the bloatware apps etc in apps for ICS, great!
