Guest Victor von Zeppelin Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Google Currents – Google’s news feed aggregator for Android has received a major update that should make it available to many more people.

Currents works much like any RSS reader, except websites can enable a Currents compatible feed. These “Editions” as they’re called have enhancements that sets content out much like a magazine, and the Editions themselves look very nice. It’s a shame the same can’t be said about the app itself, which looks like some weird beta version of ICS’s holo mixed with Metro from Windows Phone. It just doesn’t look or feel right, so bear that in mind if you’re picky about UIs like me.

As mentioned, this new version launches internationally and includes translation for any edition that may not be in your language, a very helpful feature I’m sure. Also included is a dramatic improvement in syncing speed and in my experience it felt fine, much like a website loading normally.

The following is what Google have provided as the changelog:

Sync speed - Dramatic (7X) performance boost.
Instant online sync - No need to press "sync". Just open an edition for latest content.
Offline reading - Choose favourite editions for offline images.
International - Currents now available worldwide (in 44 languages).
Translate - Translate complete editions to your preferred language. (38 languages).
Trending - Local trending stories provided for US, FR, UK, DE, IT, ES, JP, AU.
Bug fixes

Get Currents on the market: Google Currents

This item was promoted to the News page - click here to view.
