I don't have much time to play with this since as usual I'm about to get on a flight back to the US on Sunday (happens every time)

However..

Power + Vol UP = recovery

Power + Vol Down = fastboot

I've tried booting from a couple of other Huawei recovery images, just for the hell of it. and didn't get anywhere.

The most recent source on the hauwei support site is 2.6.35, and surprisingly it wont build using the pulled config :)
