Can I set up a playlist from folders rather than adding individually

I've got various separate folders for podcasts and music. If I go to the default music player, it lets me look at recent items and songs/albums etc, but these just show everything in one long list (ie. all the different podcasts and songs mixed up).

It seems crazy that I can't go to a folder and make it into a playlist rather than having to go to/set each individual podcast/song into it's own playlist (unless I'm doing it ass backwards which is entirely possible)
