Bootloader update in replacement SPV

Ok. There's been an upgrade of versions in the bootloader for my latest replacement.

If one visits the three colour screen, the version number is displayed as "v0.93", and "Canary MV" replaces "Canary PV".

The only difference I've noticed in this new bootloader is the fact that it's extremely difficult (as people reported on the forum) to let go of the Power/VoiceMemo buttons and push the action button in time, and letting go usually forwards you to the three colour screen unless you've got an SD card in its slot.

Perhaps this is their way of stopping people "decertify" their phone?

Apologies to those who were classed as beginners for saying they couldn't get into the bootloader :)

I am using an improved (by Florin) DK update. It is great and yes it has v0.93 on it. I don't find it difficult to use that. First load you can just read what it says, second load - push the right buttons... Maybe it's just me though :)

I agree with Firaas

My replacement SPV had the newer bootloader, and it really was a nightmare to press the right buttons to access it. Perseverance pays off though!

Got there in the end!

I reported this ages ago and nobody believed me! However, the new reliable way to do it is (quote from 'Ste')

"Hold the record button and power on the SPV. Wait for the canary screen to come on. When you have the canary screen up on your phone hold the record key and pwer down with your left hand push both of these buttons using your left hand only - any other way and I found it too fiddly). Now as soon as the screen goes black, release the record and pwer buttons and hold down the action key. This should keep it on the white screen. Then release the action key fuly and then hold it down again (does this quick) and then you should get the screen up you are hoping for."

This is important for people to know - any of you moderators fancy updating the 'sticky' phone unlock post to save others the confusion I went through?

Have you upgraded to the DK update?

Yes, but it's been v0.93 all along, also before the update. I kid you not.

Mine is 0.93 and I haven't applied the DK update - and this was a phone supplied in early January. Why would an update to the OS reflash the bootloader? I reckon Orange have been quietly shipping a mish-mash of phones, some with the revised bootloader and some without, maybe because they were still getting rid of the old stock while being seen to be distributing the updated version? Is pretty odd. But people take note, if your bootloader is 0.93 the method for hard reset is different. See above.

I got my SPV at end of January and its version 0.91, so it dosent appear that the new releases are newer boot loaders, just randomly distributed around the country

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two?
