Hello world.

I picked up my brand new Orange San Fran on Friday and by yestereday had killed it with kindness.

I am stuck in a bootup cycle and I cant mount the SD card as the phone doesnt ask me for permission any more.

I tried to follow the guides on here to install a new rom, without success.

I successfully unlocked the phone from Orange.

I successfully installed Universal Androot and rooted the phone.

I checked with Mr Pigfish that I had a Gen 1 and also checked that I had a TFT screen.

I selected Swedish Spring rls5 which I think is good for Gen 1 and TFT

I connected to PC by USB and mounted the SD card.

I uploaded swedish spring, recovery clockwork mod 3.0.2.8 and recovery manager v 0.37 onto the SD

Then things started to go wrong.

I updated the datatbase of something or other on the phone, then rebooted into recovery mode.

Then using the volume keys I selected swedish spring and waited.

After a while the phone rebooted.

The phone boot cycle is;

Green Andriod for a few seconds, then

futuristic ANDROID text.

where it stays until I take the battery out.

Holding the volume down key while I power up doesnt take me back into recovery

Is the phone an expensive brick? Please can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance.

Use a microSd card reader to put the tpt on your SDcard.

OK I have the card reader & I've DL the composite file;

"CM Nightly 257 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs latest CyanogenMod nightly build - all in one)"

It is rebooting.

What does this bold bit in the instructions mean please?

"It should take a few seconds to flash the new Gen2 firmware (you should see some green text), then it should reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, use that to wipe data & then install your Gen2 rom."

All working correctly and a very cool interface too.

I am very grateful. :D
