Possibly a stupid question: How do I add words to the XT9 dictionary?

I've been googling and coming up with nothing - the answers I get seem to include options that are not present on the OSFII. It's really annoying as I type much faster with XT9 than any other method.

I could download Swiftkey but I'd rather not pay for something as this is the only problem I have with the text entry.

Been a while since I used XT9, but doesn't tapping the word you typed in the suggestions bar give an "add to dictionary" option like in other keyboards?

Edit - If you have the stock ROM, could you please post the apk of XT9 too? I too liked that keyboard, very fast.

No there's no option to add when I press the word in the suggestions bar, it just accepts the word and enters into the field, and if I long press nothing happens.

I don't know how to find the APK, I'm not versed in technical stuff like that.

If your phone is rooted, use a File Explorer like ES and copy the apk from /system/app to your SD and post? If I was able to get it (sorry for the threadjack), will be great help and could check and let you know how to save in the dictionary too, cuz I remember I had custom words/jargon added to type quickly when I had XT9 for a while.

Or hopefully someone running the stock ROM can give some pointers, as I'm unable to download any large files.

The phone isn't rooted and I don't really have any interest in rooting. I downloaded ES File Explorer anyway but it won't tell me anything about APKs.

I think it might be impossible to add words to it in its current state. How annoying.

Oh well, without rooting it's just another file explorer, but still a good one. Let's forget the apk's

I can remember it did add words, atleast names. But it's been almost 3 months since I used the stock ROM so I might be confusing it with the ICS keyboard...

It must have some common names already saved in the dictionary because they come up as suggestions when I type. Rarer names don't, though.

It seems to pick them up from your address book. You should get a 3rd party keyboard like swype or swiftkeyx. Either that or install a rom like CM7/9. The stock keyboard is great.

Ah that explains how it did what I needed, thanks fr0do. I never type things which could not be found in the dictionary, using it, so it did the job well.

Could you post XT9 if you have it please? The CM keyboard is great but no swipe to type makes it slow

Yeah I thought that might be the case and I typed in names that aren't in my contacts list, and they do come up as suggestions. It must have quite a few common names in its dictionary. 'Kate', 'James' and 'Jessica' come up as suggestions, for instance, but 'Delilah', 'Ragnar' and 'Reginald' don't.

Anyway it looks like I'll have to pay £1.86 for Swiftkey. Oh well. It's just annoying as every other phone I've had you could ADD WORDS TO A DICTIONARY, but not my super sophisticated smart phone.

You could simply download the ICS keyboard? Its free and does what we want. Or Go keyboard has some good things told about it

The 'User Dictionary' option isn't there. I'm going to download GO and see what it's like, thanks for the recommendation. I'm new to smart phones so I don't know the best options.

Maybe it's an option of CyanogenMod, its quite awesome that way.

I too downloaded a few keyboards now and checked, Swiftkey and GO are still the best out there. You won't be disappointed.
