TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) is an alternative recovery like CWM or Amon.RA buts completely touch based (where im guessing Koush got the idea for CWM touch from) , Tilal (legend) managed to get it up and running on the skate, and seb404 had a go at getting it to run on the crescent but ran into a few kernel problems not enabling the touchscreen to work, i will link to his work and see if any of you brilliant masterminds can get it working

http://android.podtwo.com/beta/

i honestly dont know what to do, its just that my volume and power buttons (and im guessing yours are as well if you flash ROMs etc a lot) are badword, the power button is now completely flush and the volume down button is significantly more depressed than the volume up button and this would be a life saver, Seb said this is a WIP and it sure is ( a touchscreen recovery without a working touchscreen) but if you guys can work your magic or do something, me and the community salute you

Touchscreen works for me.

Edit: yeah... I think I'm going to quietly keep this. Cheers :P

Hmm, im just going by what Seb404 said in the post, unless he fixed it without telling anybody (weird) whats TWRP like on this, ive used it on the skate which has a massive screen but whats it like on our relatively diminutive one?

it was on the skate forum, let me find it and link it

EDIT : here it is , i posted on the third page asking if it was an easy port to the crescent and he said he already tried

It isn't a version, as it isn't ClockworkMod. It's TWRP and it's a completely different recovery.

It can't flash CWM backups, PsYcHoKiLLa tested yesterday.

It won't flash CWM backups, it doesn't even list them. Plus the files are completely different, CWM lists all the contents as img files, TWRP lists em as .win and .md5 files, so they're completely incompatible. Sadly. Would be nice if they added an importer :)

Well, gonna have to dump this. It wouldn't let me flash the latest CM9 rom for some reason, complained about partitions.

You have changed the partition layout? Or doesn't work with even stock?

OK I wanted to give this a try but I've run into problems. Before flashing it I did a nandroid backup with Clockwork Recovery (just in case). Then did a nandroid backup with TWRP, which seemed suspiciously quick but was reported as "Successful". I then attempted to flash CM9 but, just like PsYcHo (#18 above) it failed due to being "unable to verify partitions" which are stock. I re-downloaded ROM & attempted again but got the same result. I then tried FnC7 but the install failed even quicker this time. Time to quit I thought & attempted to restore the backup which was reported as successful after 25 secs! No surprise that the phone got no further than green android + solid red led! I am now thinking I need to get CWM Recovery back so that I can restore the CWM nandroid. I tried Amorphas's "Alternative way to get CWM" TPT but was unable to launch it (power/vol+/menu) as Vivacity soft keys are not available. I am now fast running out of possible solutions so would welcome some fresh ideas on the easiest way to get my phone up & running again.

If adbd is running in TWRP you can try adb reboot bootloader and fastboot CWM back on.

lol - Daz, thanks for advice. Problem is I know nothing about adbd. TWRP seems to be functioning & I see there's a Reboot / Bootloader option - is that what I need? Sorry but I really haven't got a clue - could you (or anyone who knows) break down the steps please.

If you can get in to the bootloader then that cuts out one of the steps. You need to get a copy of fastboot and use that through the command line (with a downloaded CWM img in the same folder) to run "fastboot flash recovery CWM.img" where CWM.img is the name of your download. Once that's complete, run "fastboot reboot" and CWM should be installed.

I got into a similar mess with this. There really should be a warning.

What always saves me, as I don't run USB connections, is ZTEs stock flash utility from their site. Flash that, then do a system update to a TPT that includes CWM and you're back in business.

adb would be neater, but just in case you don't have that option.

The warning was there. android.podtwo.com/beta/

Though I am thinking of pulling the zip, so you'd have to want it to try it.
