Guest PaulOBrien Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 Nokia have announced that Skype will no longer be available in the Windows Phone Marketplace for the Lumia 610, due to the fact that 'the user experience does not guarantee to Nokia and Skype the expected level'. Skype initially confirmed that their Windows Phone application was unsuitable for WP devices equipped with 256MB back in April, however it seems to have taken a month for Nokia to decide that actually, Skype really weren't making it up and they do know what they're talking about. ;) As Microsoft looks to drive Windows Phone handsets down towards the budget segments of the market the lack of compatibility with Skype is rather unfortunate, as it's an application that's popular in developing markets where low cost handsets are key. Here's hoping Microsoft can work some magic to improve the experience and Skype will return for low memory devices. The full statement (translated): Nokia values the user experience provided by its products and services. Therefore, although the Skype Windows Phone version is workable on Nokia Lumia 610, after in-depth testing, we found that the user experience is not up to par with Nokia and Skype’s expectation and decided not recommending users using Skype on Nokia Lumia 610. In the future, users of Nokia Lumia 610 would no longer be able to download Skype Windows Phone version from Window Phone Marketplace. However, Skype Windows Phone version would still be available for other users. [Via: WMPowerUser] Click here to view the item
