Guest 9secondlegend Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 hi i am now selling my wifes san fransisco due to upgrade. i have had problems with it crashing but i am going to explain that when i do sell. my question is how do i delete all the personal info like passwords and websites etc? cheers
Guest bladebuddy Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Wipe data factory resetting in cwm should do it , also if you are including the sd card make sure you format it. Edit you can also do a factory reset without cwm on your phone in the settings menu under privacy/ wipe data factory reset.! Edited May 24, 2012 by bladebuddy
Guest 9secondlegend Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 ok i dont have cwm installed do i need to download it?
Guest bladebuddy Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 Sorry edited my post later to tell you that it can be done under settings/ privacy option also.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 Never ever ever sell a used SD or micro sd card. If you want to know why, wipe the micro SD card and send it to me and I will show you how easy it is to recover what was on it. Stuff can be recovered very easily and I know this due to a camera card that went corrupt so nothing whatsoever was showing. I managed to recover all my pics plus ones I had deleted previously.

Guest redhawkuk Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 A lot of people think that formatting a USB memory stick or memory card in Windows will remove their data unfortunately that is not the case. For some reason Windows is hell bent on performing quick format even when you have specifically instructed it to perform a full format. Quick format only zeros the first few sectors of the disk which means anything past that could be sniffed out with signature based detection software. To destroy your data properly your could: -format card and fill it full of junk files (preferably of sizes devisable by the disk cluster size) this should make the retrieval of any data impossible because they would be overwritten. -fill the memory card with 00s from start to finish with a disk editor i.e. WinHex then format the memory card in Windows. or better still take your card out and replace it with a cheap generic one from ebay :) Richard S.

Hi, what programme do you use to recover the deleted info from a SD card/USB stick....?
Guest redhawkuk Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) There are many recovery programs however most seem to have problems with formatted drives or drives with lost partitions. Recuva is one freeware tool I know that works for regular deleted files but not reliable for recovering files from formatted cards. The remaining are commercial and have some restrictions: disk digger only allows one file at a time recovery, DiskInternals Partition Recovery watermarks images previews no file recovery and flashmemorytoolkit will detect certain media files but won't save unless registered. There is another freeware tool called PhotoRec which I've been told is good although I've never had the opportunity to try it yet. http://www.cgsecurit...g/wiki/PhotoRec http://www.piriform....recuva/download http://diskdigger.org/ http://www.flashmemorytoolkit.com/ http://www.diskinter...com/?product=PR Richard S. Guest shanky887614 Posted June 4, 2012 Report Posted June 4, 2012 you can always using a program like d-ban darriks boot n nuke that will overwrite the data to make it impossible to recover. what that guy was trying to say is. when you do a format/quick format it just flags all the data on the memory stick to availible space so as long as you dont write anything to it, you can recover all the data off it because its still there, the only way to stop someone recovering it is to overwrite it. the simplist way is to either use an old machine or virtual machine attach memory stick to the old machine or virtual machine boot d-ban set to automatic and it will make the data unrecoverable i did this with the hdd on an old computer (also wiped the memory stick i was running the program off)

Thats why I always put the 2gb one in a draw and stick the 32gb card in, then I can sell the 2gb one without passing on confidential data.
