Guest pritsey Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Hi all, It seems that through the night my data connection goes away, meaning when I wake up that I won't have received any emails etc. I leave it charging through the night with wifi on and mobile data on but they both seems to "sleep" - is this normal behaviour? Also whenever I leave a wifi area the phone asks me if it's ok to carry on with using data, is there anyway to turn this off? Thanks!
Guest h2005uk Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 The mobile data 'sleeps' when the phone's locked (or when it's left for a certain time period, I'm not sure which). This can be stopped by going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and ticking "Enable always-on mobile". I believe it uses a bit more battery doing that. The wi-fi seems to sleep as well in a similar fashion, but I'm not sure if "Enable always-on mobile" would prevent the wi-fi from sleeping. Maybe having the "background data" option ticked in the "Accounts & sync" settings is enough to stop the wifi from sleeping - do you have that ticked? I don't think there is a way to turn off that "is it ok to use data" message when turning off wifi - I assume it's something that's built into Android.
Guest h2005uk Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 I've just ticked the "enable always-on mobile" option and it seems the wifi doesn't go to sleep. I'm surprisd there's not one "always on" option for mobile data and one for wifi... seems a bit odd, but there we go.
Guest pritsey Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 I've already got that ticked actually, still happened last night though. I've just come over to Android from iOS (also use blackberry for work) so just expected the data connection to stay live, not sure why it doesn't...
Guest craigysd Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Have you guys tried settings>wifi >wifi settings>options>advanced then wifi sleep policy and change it to never. May help. Also if you want to remove that annoying data message, check my earlier posts on thread titled irritating problem. Edited June 3, 2012 by craigysd

Also if you want to remove that annoying data message, check my earlier posts on thread titled irritating problem. Thanks for the help, however wifi sleep policy was already set to never. I did look for your other post on the annoying pop up though - much help thanks! I would never have known how to do that, already had rom toolbox lite so thanks ! :-)
Guest ryan2801 Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 I have the same problem. WIFI goes ot sleep when the phone is in standby. I've done eveything as stated above but to no avail. Any other advice?
Guest psionandy Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 I use LLama (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&hl=en) to set a wakeup time in the morning and turn on wifi, so that it will sync mail (and my newspaper subscriptions) to the phone before i go to work.. (it also does other useful stuff, like manage volume, ring status and stuff based on where it thinks it is at any given time).
