Guest pelago Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) In the Play Store Apps section first page, there is an icon labelled "Selected by Vodafone", even though I'm not using VF. It's only a little thing, but is it possible to remove this bit of branding, without having to flash a whole new ROM? I don't mind rooting if necessary. Edited June 5, 2012 by pelago
Guest Davidoff59 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Rooting will remove all the bloatware. I never noticed that what you pointed out but I did root fairly quickly after buying the G300.
Guest pelago Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Thanks. After rooting what specifically should I remove?
Guest Davidoff59 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Not had those files in a while but you can remove those game trials safely if not used and the 3 or 4 vodafone apps. Apps should be in cust file which you can find with a root browser. Titanium backup will say that it can't find the apps if you try to remove them so use rom toolbox, click on root browser, click cust and go from there. Delete the individual apk's that aren't needed, don't delete the whole cust file. Leave the touchpal files as that's for your on screen keyboard.
Guest Simon O Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Rooting isn't going to remove any operator customisations from the play store as these are read from the build.prop file. You need to flash an unbranded ROM to remove them (I would strongly suggest doing this anyway. B886 is the best to use right now).

I'm not talking about the individual pre-installed apps like the game trials, but the little bit of branding in the Play Store. I'd post a screenshot if I knew how to take one! I guess I'll install a custom ROM at some point, but not right now (it's actually my wife's phone!) Edited June 6, 2012 by pelago
Guest Davidoff59 Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 I guess the Branding is there due to vodafone apps. I have never seen it.
Guest kyan31 Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 I can take a screenshot. I have screenshot app on my G300...
Guest kyan31 Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 See, there is a 'selected by Vodafone' tab.
Guest doley Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 maybe google play picks up the phone make and model and assumes that its vodafone only?
Guest Tiddy_ Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 I was using twitter earlier today on my phone and saw something similar. Think it said sponsored tweets from Vodafone.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 where that vodafone recommends is, on mine it shows editors choice so I presume its tied in with those apps.
Guest pelago Posted June 7, 2012 Report Posted June 7, 2012 I can take a screenshot. I have screenshot app on my G300... Thanks. Out of interest, which screenshot app do you have?
