crescent stuck at fish logo

My son in laws crescent was working for weeks now its stuck at the fish&chips logo, So I pull the battery and hold volume down and it starts up in FTM mode I was expecting clockwork to open so I could clear the caches or install a new rom. Is it possible to install clockwork in FTM mode ?

I tried this but holding Vol+ Menu and power on just tries to boot the rom and not install the image file that is on SDcard/image

Cheers, turns out that trying to follow the guide was WRONG, you don't actually hold down the vol+ menu and power, like the guide say's. You actually hold Vol+, HOME, power.
