Guest Predators Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Hi there, I bought my GF a new phone so we gave her ZTE Blade to our Son. I had put Swedish Spring RLS5 on it and I think I made it Gen 2, but can't remember as it was ages ago. It has worked flawlessly and been a cracking phone. However he went down by the river and had it in his pocket, he jumped in the river and forgot to take the bleeding phone out of his pocket (got a serious tocking off I can tell ya). At first it would do nothing then after a couple of weeks I managed to boot it into clockwork mode and get it fully working again. That same night it was all working, all he did was leave it in standby and plugged it in to charge without powering off. When he got up in the morning to wake it up, it would not work at all. I have purchased a new battery for it thinking that might be the problem. Now all it does is boot to the green android logo and nothing else. I can not get it into clockwork and if I plug it into the PC the computer does not recognise it and comes up with unknown device, with a code 43 message. It says something about the USB hardware device might be faulty (or something like that). So I have no way of connecting it to the PC or getting it into clockwork mode. Has it finally died on us or is there something I might be able to do to get it working again please? Thanks in advance, Gary. Edited June 26, 2012 by Predators
Guest bladebuddy Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 I see this so often, once a phone has been water damaged it can carry on for weeks, I have herd all the bullsh**t from take it apart and put it on the radiatior , to put it in a bag of rice. The b all and end all is" water and electrics don't mix" sometimes the phone recoverers, most off the time it doesn't. So either replace or claim, and this is honestly the best advice.
Guest Predators Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks for your reply, looks like its knackered then, such a shame. He won't be getting another one that's for certain.
Guest Mad Mac Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Rule for water damage is, power off, strip apart, washed with distilled water and dried asap.
Guest Hayden3430 Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 washed with distilled water But wouldn't this make it worse?
Guest avira.tank Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 In a series of " The Gadget Show" i had seen "How to debrick a cellphone after water damage". You need to: 1) Take out the battery, SIM Card, SD Card, and other that has been pluged in cellphone. 2) With a vacuum cleaner, clean all the pieces on for 8-16 minutes. ( Battery, SIm Card, SD Card, Screen, Front of the OSF, and behind ) I think that it was helpfull
Guest WAWA72 Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) The first thing to get out of the filth of the River broth. To create the first mobile phone in distilled water. Scrub with a toothbrush, the individual components on the board. Then the phone in Alcohol 100% set. Back scrub. Then blow dry with 100% oxygen with no additions. Then brush with acetone-soaked toothbrush every block. The mobile phone blow dry again. Now put the phone in a cloth bag and place in a bowl covered with 500 grams of rice there. There can now be at least 3 days in it. Then get out and look up the board. Corrosion with acetone and a toothbrush handle. Edited June 28, 2012 by WAWA72
Guest Predators Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Many thanks for the replies. This happened a few weeks ago and like I mentioned it actually started working again and now its just the green logo. I'm going to take it to bits and have a look, but I think its dead and buried :(
Guest bladebuddy Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 If you understand what wawa72 is trying to tell you and if you can get the chemicals needed, then give this a try , as this guy seems to know his stuff, also a good source for needed parts.
Guest Grain Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 But wouldn't this make it worse? The problem for water damage is residual minerals and other stuff (that might short circuit things) but first and foremost corrosion due to electrolysis if the device is still under power when wet. So if electronics get wet, disconnect power immediately and dry thoroughly. Depending on your skills you can try cleaning the device with destilled water (to rinse out residue) but you have to be careful not to break/wet (partially) mechanical parts (speaker, microphone). In any case, reconnect power only after the device has dried completely which might take some time.
Guest Predators Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Hi... many thanks for all the replies. We have been messing with it and could not really get it to do anything. So have taken the decision to scrap it and look for a 2nd hand one on eBay or something at a later date. Thanks again.
Guest apeman69 Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Thread is dead, I know. However, I have had an OSF with faulty volume buttons that would not boot (stuck on green android logo) just because the volume buttons were repeatedly being 'pressed' by the fault. Could be something as simple as a bit of sh!t in the wrong place so all the above info concerning cleaning the electronics is good advice and worth a go.

I don't have the Blade, I have the Blade S/Crescent, but my phone does this. Power it on, press all the keys until you hear a click, and see what happens
Guest apeman69 Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 Thanks for the advice but my faulty phone is now being used for spares... what's left of it, he he!
