Using the Gr2 B888 rom and when I call over Skype over wifi, the call is dropped straight away. Almost like Skype can't talk to the sound hardware properly. Anyone else had similar problems (or problems calling with other voip apps like Line/Tango/sip)?

Only tried skype once, over wi-fi, me on B888, other person on B885, and worked on both ends, we had a conversation.

Skype working fine here but I'm on the Huawei B888 rom. It's quite possible that Vodafone have stopped Skype working on the standard B885 rom.

I just found this on the Vodafone website help centre:

Will I be able to use Skype™ or peer-to-peer services?

Yes. However, to use Skype™ calls or peer-to-peer services you will need Mobile broadband via your phone. The data for these services will be deducted from your data allowance.

More about mobile broadband via your phone

You can not use Skype™ or peer-to-peer services on any other pay monthly or pay as you browse packs.

So it is quite possible that Skype is blocked in the rom.

I was using a Three sim. Also I was Skyping when connected to wifi.

Going abroad for a couple of weeks on Monday; will try out a couple more roms when I have time. Maybe later next week.

Yeah, but if Vodafone have blocked Skype in their rom then it won't matter what sim you are using or if you are on WiFi it will still be blocked. From Vodafones point of view if you are using Voip to make a call they are not making any money.

I'm not saying that is the case, I'm just saying it is a possibility. Don't forget that B885 is a Vodafone customised rom and what the've got up to in it is anyones guess. B888 on the other hand is a pure Huawei rom so wouldn't have carrier imposed restrictions added.

This is, of course, purely conjecture on my part and I may be way off. However, it's a bit of a coincidence that Skype works on B888 but appears not to on B885.

Just bought another G300 (last one requisitioned by girl friend). Running stock B893 rom and standard Skype from play store works perfectly (I mean voice). This is using Vodaphone network. Actually Vodaphone data network is much worse than Three so most of my Skype calling is on wifi. My conclusion is Three have the best data network in the UK.

I'm using Gr2 B888 (upgraded with B892 firmware but it worked fine before that as well) based ROM and I have SIpgate voip app installed. Works fine over wifi.

Hogweed, do you know that Gingerbread has integrated SIP support? I use Sipgate without their app installed.

I don't seem to have any IP call settings with Gr2 ROM (B888 based). What am I missing? Don't recall seeing the option on stock either. The sipgate app is a bit buggy (although definitely usable) so I'd be interested in trying it with integrated SIP.

Nope, its not on the stock ROM either! It should be there under call settings - they've removed it from the stock ROMs! Must have been Vodafone's doing ;-) nly just got my G300 recently, but I was using the native SIP support on my previous phone until this past week. I'll look into it...

Edit: Vodafone aren't the only ones; T-Mobile have also been removing the native SIP stack... 'Enhancement' my arse! :angry2:

I've re-enabled it on B892 by following instructions here: http://mobilecon.info/enable-android-gingerbread-native-sip-stack.html If you want it to listen whilst using mbile data, it will require a little extra work. CyanogenMod includes a mobile data toggle, but the stock interface does not. Its possible to re-enable the SIP stack in ICS too; Google search ftw, telcos be damned ;)
