For one week only, the LG Optimus L3 is only £49.99 pay as you go at the Carphone Warehouse. But is it any good?

We have briefly covered the LG Optimus L-Series before.

The L3 is the budget handset of the L-Series, which with an original RRP of £159.99, did not impress any of the MoDaCo News Team. I would quote VictorVonZeppelin, but his words are actually unpublishable. <img src='http://www.modaco.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

The L3 has a QVGA display, 256mb RAM, 3 Megapixel Camera, and is running Gingerbread.

Those are the low points, the (relative) high points are:
• Armv7 CPU running at 800mhz
• Dedicated Adreno 200 GPU
• 1 Gigabyte ROM
• Readily available kernel source
I will be picking up one of these later - as a basic development device it has it's merits, 1GB ROM is big enough to fit Android 4.0 on, ClockWorkMod Recovery is already available and the device has already been rooted.

Finally, display issues that are mentioned on several reviews on the internet were fixed in firmware release V10I. So does anyone want to join me in developing on this device? At £49.99 I think it's a steal.

I've just been into my local Carphone Warehouse in Northampton and have been told it's a Web Exclusive... so, I've purchased via TopCashBack who are offering £3.03 possible cashback on any Pay as You Go handset purchased at the Carphone Warehouse website.
Hmmm, I am looking for a replacement for my ancient Pulse whilst I decide whether to jump in and get the current Note or wait to see if the Note 2 materialises in the Autumn. 50 notes is the point at which I think it might be worth a joust, particularly if someone will port ICS (hecatae???).

Hi Dr Who, already looking at AOSP ICS and CAF ICS, also getting several reports that the device actually has 384mb RAM, not 256mb.

I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered, due today

Tres interesent.

If you get the chance could you post your thoughts when you receive the device? Particularly if it has 384Mb RAM - the Pulse was crippled for continuing development by its 198Mb RAM and tiny ROM partition, although as a phone it does everything I need (a couple of calls, a few text and Barnacle for tethering), just all a bit painfully slowly some times.
