Guest 1ntense Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 So, I only ever used the internet on my OSF in my house through my wifi connection. I have since upgraded my tariff and have 1GB of data usage on it. I got a text saying that to use it, I would have to call them up, also to get MMS settings. When I did, they didnt seem to have any settings for me. Any ideas on how to get the internet working when Im not at home? Thanks Dan
Guest Mtman1 Posted July 9, 2012 Report Posted July 9, 2012 What network are you on? You have to add the apns for your network
Guest 1ntense Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Sorry, forgot to say. Im on o2, pretty sure I input all the settings before to enable me to connect to wifi. Not sure if its some new settings though but APN settings ring a bell. It might be something really simple, Im slightly retarded when it comes to mobiles lol When connected to wifi, I keep getting an 'internal storage low' message popping up every 2 mins as well which is starting to get a bit annoying. Any way to get that to stop coming up?
Guest Mtman1 Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Yes it is the APN's. Could you have a quick look at which apns are already there? Normally they're in wireless and networks -> mobile networks-> access point names. There's probably the apns already there, but if not there's bound to be something on the o2 website. I don't know about the low memory bug, sorry.
Guest 1ntense Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I had a look and Im currently using giffgaff but also on there is mobile.o2.co.uk What else is needed to be turned on to use my o2 data (1GB) from my contract, ie has the 4 symbols when you swipe to the right have anything to do with it? where you turn on bluetooth and wifi etc?
Guest Mtman1 Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Are you on o2 or giffgaff? The apns are different....
Guest 1ntense Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) Network as in who provides my contract is o2 but seem to be using giffgaff apn. Now I feel stupid.. :( If I switch to the o2 apn, what else do I need to switch on to have my phone use its own modem to connect to the internet (assuming thats how it accesses internet when using data included in contract) Im just paranoid of maybe making a mistake ie heard something about data roaming, and getting charged a small fortune for using what I thought was my included data if that makes sense. Edit: Think Ive managed to get the internet working without using my home wifi connection. I changed the apn to o2, switched on the 'data connection' in the mobile network connection settings. I got a 3G symbol at the top of the screen, assuming/hoping that's me using the data included in my contract? Edited July 10, 2012 by 1ntense

Guest 1ntense Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Sending this from my phone, impressions are that it feels very laggy with the typing but then it does when texting as well. Screen size is too small and I'm not sure I would be much of a mobile phone net browser when I've got my blackberry playbook and laptop really.

Guest 1ntense Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 yeah defo, will come in handy at times no doubt! just to make sure, for anyone that has this phone, have I connected to the internet correctly, ie 3G logo appears with an up and down arrow. Settings that I mention that I turned on above all done correctly?
