Guest iliketoparty Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Hi all, Eventually managed to download my update using a combination of the english and french version (on Win98), and have the problem now of it sticking on that lovely orange sun screen when I press the on button. I have read that by doing a hard reset then erasing the IPSM data then it should work....problem is I have and its still there...here's what happens. 1. Press Record + Power On...the following is displayed Card Found WINCE GSM IPSM Press Action Key to download Start download download CE success download gsm success download IPSM success 2. Now if I press, say, Action, and get to the bootloader, a previous post said if you Erase IPSM data it should get passed the orange sun screen the next time the power on is pressed....ITS STILL NOT GETTING PASSED IT! Please help me...getting v upset!!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Reboot without the SD card. If you don't have any luck, stick it in the Canary M/PV screen and run thee update again.
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Thanks, but still knackered... Took out battery, then card, then put in battery again...came up with the sun. Put it on the Canary MV v0.98 rainbow screen then reinstalled the upgrade and... ...still comes up with that bloody sun! Anything else? Contacted Orange and the woman on the phone thinks its due to the PAK code getting activated today, which is true but it should at least get passed the sun. Cheers Party
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 If you can. try running the update again on another PC. When i updated i couldn't get past the Canary screen, tried everything and nothing worked. Eventually tried running it on my PC at work and it completed first time
Guest Honest John Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Can I lend my considerable weight to the advice to try again using another PC? I had no luck at all using Windows 98, but no bother with Win2000. It's good advice. However, if you think this is tricky, wait till the decertification. Then you need the nice little program available on the Forum with the loop set. You will wish for the sunshine back rather than the tricolour rainbow!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Or decert through the Orange developers method...
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Had enough of all this pissin' about, so phoned orange again and they are sending me a new SPV free of charge. Getting the old one lifted tomorrow from TNT. Thanks for the help, but don't have the time for all this. Pretty crap how you have to go all through this just to get an update working. Typical Microsoft...riddled with bugs, but sell the product any way and wait for the complaints to flood in. Cheers Party
Guest Honest John Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Did mine before that came out, but many thanks for the prog that you on the forumsupplied to make it possible.
Guest simon11 Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Slightly off the topic. I cann't see why anybody is still on windows 98. I found it totally crap. Crashing all the time. Windows 3.1 was more stable. I think Millenium was a slight improvement but xp is the best yet. I have always duel or tripple booted operating systems whilst I make the change over. Try this and your problems are over. Simon.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Don't forget WinXP can run applications in compatability mode, so theres no reason even to dual boot the transistion. (I've run the Original Red alert (DOS based) happily on XP )
Guest Honest John Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Slightly off the topic. I cann't see why anybody is still on windows 98. Simon. Well, if you have a network of 600 PCs, most of which are Windows 98 and your strategy is moving towards CITRIX, there is not much point in lining Bill Gates' pocket upgrading the PCs to an operating system that you won't actually be using as you are using the CITRIX servers' processors - which are the latest version of Windows. Actually, Windows 98 has been reasonably stable for us.
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Win 98 is stable for me as well...I work in installing and configuring networks using XP and have to say that I'm not that bothered about changing over to XP on my home machine just now. I like XP, but I still don't mind '98...does all that I need it to do... ...except maybe letting me install a patch on my lovely new phone!!! Cheers just now guys. Waiting for the TNT guy to pick up my old phone. Lets just hope he gives me one with the OS already updated! Party
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Hi guys, Just to say I have had my new phone delivered and its all configured back to the way I like it! Even has the picture and sound manager already installed. I only needed to give back the handset, battery and charger, and in replace I got a complete new kitted out phone minus a camera! Pays to complain!!! Cheers for all your help Party
