SD card not mounting

I've been having a recurring problem with my phone and I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, I've searched and searched and not found much on this so I hope I can get some help because this is rapidly becoming a major issue!

I'm running the CM9 port but this was occuring on the stock rom for a little bit as well before I switched.

My phone is having big problems with detecting SD Cards, I was using a 4GB card before and that would every so often tell me that the SD card is broken/has been removed/is mounting/is safe to unmount/etc... and generally not being detected in any way.

I then switched to an 8GB, it did it a little bit more with that then one day it just stopped mounting the SD card at all and started spamming me constantly with notifications about the SD card.

I thought it might have been the cards as they were all second hand from my friends, they'd been used in multiple devices and I was unsure on their stability. To try and fix this once and for all I bought a brand new 16GB SDHC card from amazon and it arrived today, I was very excited as I thought this would fix my issue but when I put it in and turned my phone on it just started spamming me with the notifications again, I thought it may have been my build of CM9 so I went to reflash the rom onto my phone but it seems that even CWM can't mount my SD Card, I just get a message saying 'Error mounting /sdcard!' so now I can't even flash my rom back onto my phone!

Please someone help me because it's driving me craaazzyyyyyy!!!

So it sounds like there really isn't anything I can do to rectify this? I was afraid it was a hardware issue but as I've unlocked the phone for GiffGaff it's out of it's warranty :(

Edit:

As I can't mount an SD card onto my phone I'm unable to flash any roms onto it and now have a seemingly bricked phone, I can connect to it with ADB but I've no idea how to flash a rom onto my phone through that if it's even possible.

Any help on at least getting a rom onto my phone would be met with warmth and gratitude unlike the world has ever seen!

Thanks for the tip there, that tool looks like it's going to fix my problems but I'm running into another problem, CM9 is a .zip that you install from SD where as this is asking for android image files (.img). Where can I find an img for the CM9 ZTE Skate port or will I have to go with another ROM that already has an img?

Afaik the image file is inside the zip file.

You can extract the file from the zip using winrar or other suitable software.

I'm not sure if you can flash the image file or if needs to be modified. Sorry :(

There's a boot.img in the zip, I'll try it with that and see how it goes, thanks again!

Well, that didn't work. I think that boot.img is just for the boot partition of my phone (makes sense like), it didn't do anything to the system partition. In the .zip I have for CM9 there is a folder for system and not an img, I'm guessing it just get's moved from that folder to the partition when installed from the sd card so now I'm back at a loss for an img that will flash completely on my phone :(

My phone has been bricked for two days now heeeeelp!!!

Is there an IRC I can go to for more direct advice on this?

Try the whole rom

Do you mean try flashing the whole .zip onto the phone? It doesn't work, the program that doubleon pointed me to will only flash .img files onto a partition and not .zips, if you know of a way for me to flash a zip onto the phone without it being on the SD card then please, let me know!

Get a 12 volt source and fry it in the memory card slot, the phone will be burnt out then you can claim on the warranty! they wont know you flashed it coz its fried ;-) ... done it myself before!

Will they know I've unlocked it?

I've got a GIffGaff sim in there now but I can just go and get a PaYg Orange sim from any shop around here and throw it in haha

I'm not entirely sure, I've now been without a phone for a couple of weeks and I'm getting desperate, digging out old nokias so I can still be contacted but I miss my Monte Carlo like a long lost friend </3.

Any more info on trying to flash a rom onto the phone without an SD Card anyone?

And anyway to re-lock the phone so I can send it back in to get fixed by the good people at orange?

I'm getting really irritated with this issue too. Within days/weeks after I've re-formatted, as I have now done many times, set up link2sd, put lots of apps on the SD, filled the SD up with music my SD card is not recognised or rejected. I'm alternating between 2 lexar 30gb ones and both do the same. Given this phones pitiful lack of internal memory it really is a big issue. Is the any solution or fix? Sometimes my phone keeps on rebooting in an endless loop until I remove the SD and then it starts normally. Running stock rom on my ZTE skate.

I also had some issues with my sd card like skate doesn't recognize it. what I did was mount sd card through CWM and use partition magic to delete all partitions on card. then create a single partition, format it.

my problem was solved.. after that I created a ext partition with CWM and all worked ok.. :) hope it helps
