Guest michael smith Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Is there anyone who will do the unlocking process on my phone for me, or email the changed files needed? i have tried following the instructions, but cannot get it to work. happy to pay...... michael.
Guest wsm1972 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 It IS all about timing. What you want to try and do is get the computer to recognise the phone BEFORE the menu comes up (ie during the blue screen). It IS hard to get the timing, but just keep trying. If all else fails and you live in Scotland Im quite happy to do it for you. :)
Guest webba Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Ill do it, im on the dole and need cash! lol, it worked for me 1st time. £20 including return special delivery [email protected]
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 You are kidding me right?!? P
Guest michael smith Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 yes serious. the whole reason the IT industry is booming is not all of us have the time or inclination to sit there and play with these things, but we want them to work. time is precious, i think 20 quid is a good solution compared to maybe a couple of hours mucking around with this. michael.
Guest Firaas Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Mad! I'm sure you could find an SPV genius living near you who'd be happy to do it for free - I wouldn't have minded if you lived in Manchester.
Guest martin G Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Should take you 2 minutes (not 2 hours) Simply put... Goto Smartphone/Windows directory from Menu bar : View - Details from Menu bar : Tools - Folder options click view tab and then show hidden files copy files to C drive mxipcold_oem_10 mxip_oem_10 From C drive (this applies to both files) Right click file and enter properties Disable read only (bottom left) Edit file using Notepad and change parm name="4102" value = 1 parm name="4119" value = 196 save file and re-enable read only . THATS YOUR FILES READY. The phone reset + IPSM deletion is explained in the procedure. (a bit of practice in needed to get into the menu) Tip - Highlight both files on C drive and drag & drop both files at once into the smartphone windows directory with Ctrl key + mouse. Do this when the ActiveSync icon first goes green (at point of connection). OK any prompts for overiding files. How you restore the files in IPSM (for contacts/themes etc) is up to you. I restored IPSM from backup to SD card (via bootloader). Altough backup doesn't seem to work for 8meg card - needs higher.
Guest MasterBlaster-UK- Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Firaas i also live in Manchester so if you work out how to do it i will buy you a few pints if you show me :) .. I have had a go myself but i cant find the mxipcold_oem etc etc... does any one know the "OTHER" way one which is meant to take seconds ?????
Guest HelloDave Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 does any one know the "OTHER" way one which is meant to take seconds ?????I think it only worked on French SPVs, and wasn't too successful either! Sometimes the mxipcold_oem is called something slightly different, so find anything similar and if it has the right lines of text in it then it's the one you want! the whole reason the IT industry is booming is not all of us have the time or inclination to sit there and play with these things, but we want them to work. I find that very sad - the more people that pay for ridiculously easy things like this the more it will encourage companies/individuals to charge us for them instead of just telling us how to do it ourselves. I don't mind paying for things that someone has actually had to put effort into, such as good software, but for app unlocking - you're having a laugh! It's like the little g*ts who tried to sell people free information on SIM swapping from this forum on Ebay - only stupid or lazy people who find Google taxing will have fallen for it, but the fact that some did will only encourage others to sell pointless "services". It's a downward spiral...take PC World's "PC tuneup", in other words - "lets charge the customer £20 for running scandisk and defrag", people could quite easily do that themselves with a 2 minute search on the web! I'm sure it all started with free ISPs making revenue from their "tech support" calls - 50p/min for someone reading from a FAQ; if you've got a real problem they're screwed! At least OCS is free :) Apologies for my rant, it just bugs me that people get taken in and end up paying for things they could quite easily do themselves with a little research, and it doesn't just happen in IT (though that seems to be particularly bad); take cars for example. I was looking round a BMW dealer the other day and when we got back to the car it was blocked in so we asked the receptionist if the owner could move it - "No problem sir, she's just having the battery changed in her keyfob". Now how much did an "official BMW" £1.50 CR2025 cell cost her I wonder; £10? All she needed was a helpful friend with a screwdriver! ;)

Guest madu Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Right then before you put ur phones through the wall once again I would like to emphasize the fact that SIM PIN1 LOCK MUST BE *ON*!! That is done in Settings> 9 More.. > 5 Security > 2 Enable SIM Lock PS: You must know your SIM code or look in the manual - it is something like 0000
Guest MasterBlaster-UK- Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003  :) :D ;) Thanks everyone for your help, got my [hone unlocked and now am off to play DOOM Thanks again   PS thank Firaas for the notepad tip
Guest martin G Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I didn't have the SIM lock enabled when I updated. Files went straight in without locks active. Also timing hasn't given me any problems so far. Reply if all the above works OK for you too. P.S. MasterBlaster - I've added notepad to the above edit instructions. I forgot to mention it - ooops! Hope your phone & wall are OK.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Yep same here never used sim lock enabled, but i did keep my SD card in to slow the boot screen part.
Guest CaptainZok Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 :) Thanks Guys you all just persuaded me that unlocking ain't difficult. thought it was shutting down at the orange screen when the backlight went off, but breifly popping back in the cradle showed me things were going on as expected Chalk up another unlocked spv to the modaco crew
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 :) When did the rant start?
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Also timing hasn't given me any problems so far. The timing seems to be a little more critical post DK-update as the phone seems to have a faster startup after a hard reset; it seems that enabling the SIM-lock helps a little here. Had to do a hard reset myself the other day (my fault, for a change) and just can't be bothered de-cerfifying again...
