Guest Eivis Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 So as the title says i'm a newbie and i want to know what is the order of things in this OS. Should i root my phone first or instal a custom ROM? Is there any kind of labeling system like with the HTC models (I.E. there is a variety of HTC topaz- t5353, 5388, 5252 and so on). Can i downgrade from an ICS rom to a Gingerbread one? I want to know at least the baisics for safe moding, hacking, FW updating. Thanks for anyone who will answer me :)
Guest kyan31 Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) You should stay on gingerbread until an official ICS from is released. You cannot downgrade that easily from ICS to GB. Currently, gingerbread is faster than the Chinese ics builds as they do not have OpenGL. This means hardware acceleration is not supported. Gingerbread has got opengl. When the official UK vodafone update comes out, hardware acceleration will be on it. You should then update. If your new, you should probably check out the 'help I'm new' topic in the pinned section. Guest kyan31 Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Oh and there are two types of g300. Huawei U8815 is the English one. Huawei U8818 is the NFC enabled Chinese one.
Guest DaddyBaddy Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 I've just downgraded my Huawei G300 from ICS back to GB using the official Huawei method. I don't like to faff about with modding, rooting or custom ROM'ming. I'm a noob. My fresh-out-of-the-box phone came running GB on B885. An OTA update came through the same day upgrading me to B892. I did an OTA update last weekend from B892 to B895. B895 then allowed me to officially update to ICS (B936) via OTA update. Been running ICS B936 for a few days. Yes its easier to use and prettier to look at for sure, but it's also got problems I just can't live with like heavy RAM usage and broken dictionaries. Simply not good enough. I used this link to get the official Huawei G300 ICS to GB downgrade package. Did it first time with no errors. :D I used a formatted 2 gig microSD card. Now back on good old Gingerbread. No messing about with custom / unofficial ROM's or ClockWorkMod etc. for me! Happy again :P
