Well not so sure about Modding phones" 1 no kernel development e.g no overclocking. 2 only a few devs even bothering with this phone at the moment. GOOD DEVS 3 into Modding phones at least get one with cymoagenmod backup Not slating the phone just saying its not the best phone to buy if you're into Modding phones.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 its not just one issue so its more than a faulty batch. Try pointing an issue out to Vodafone, they will immediately state they are just a service provider, try pointing out an issue to Huawei and you are totally ignored. It now looks like my 2nd g300 is developing a fault so do I chance a third one or ask for a refund? Given the sheer frustration of dealing with either Vodafone or Huawei, my choice may be an easy one.
Guest wrtease Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 i agree yes your right but how many of us are useing the huawei g300 now ,so it can only get better or worse. and im using canyongen on my other mobile .its not a g300 .
Guest Daum Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Smaller, more responsive screen with a higher resolution and ppi Smaller screen is a good thing? To you maybe, and the viewing angles are really horrible, or you have really low standards. Dual Core 1Ghz CPU which runs apps/games a lot smoother, and benchmarks are excellent, Who plays games on a phone these days? 12 year olds? Who cares about gpu performance on a phone, let alone benchmarks. The rest of the camera specs are easily achievable through 3rd party apps, except 720p video. 2GB for apps (more than enough for me) 2GB is enough for apps? It's not 2009 anymore, sorry. Sony Xperia NXT users know when they're getting ICS. You already have official ICS right here on the forum, but since you don't know/don't want to flash roms your loss... Cortex A9 beats Cortex A5, Mali 400MP graphics wipe out the Adreno 200 graphics Face and Smile detection Macro Front Camera 4 point multitouch Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine Touch Focus (only going to be introduced to G300 in ICS) Image Stabilisation Really? Such colorful adjectives, "Beats, Wipe out" Like i said ↓↓↓ Plus, you've just joined and listed your device as a Motorola MPx200 LOL, that was a joke when i first joined Modaco long time ago when you couldn't type your phone but select it from the list. (You should do your research: Member Since 14 May 2005) Like i said, to each his own. If you're happy with your Xperia U, great, just don't rub it in like everyone else is an idiot. You were screwed by Vodafone, i got screwed 2 years ago like that by Telenor. Operators are bastards. Edited August 6, 2012 by Daum

You were screwed by Vodafone, i got screwed 2 years ago like that by Telenor. Operators are bastards. But yet you only have 2 posts? Screen resolution and ppi matters more to me than "herp derp, my screen is 5.87987979788645735367 inches and I can do uber pictures on Draw Something). 800x480 on a 4" screen is pretty poor imho. But i lived with it in the phones short life. B926 is a demo Chinese ICS minus UI acceleration. B927 is an incomplete testing European ROM. So uhh, no, official UK ICS is not here. Also, I know how to transfer a .app into //sdcard/dload and hold volume up and down whilst powering on. Your attempts to belittle and patronise me are futile. Why did NVIDIA make Tegra? OH that's right! For gaming on PHONES and TABLETS. ZTE just released the Grand X which includes Tegra 2. If people didn't care about gaming on smartphones, why are games some of the top downloaded apps on Google Play (Angry Birds, Draw Something, Cut the Rope, Temple Run etc.)? 2GB isn't enough for apps? Well NO WONDER people complain applications force close, and their phone has lag. Because if you've filled it with 2GB of apps, you have all these startup objects running, not all of which can be completely disabled, even if you have root. Plus, you can transfer some of the apps into the 4GB user space, because it acts like an SD card? Stop acting like a child with memes and charmap characters, and give some concrete evidence please.
Guest mack_ Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 All right you two need to calm down before you get banned or whatever happens when people start having a heated dicussion on the forums...Keep it on topic and @Daum no need for childish antics dude
Guest irishpancake Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Hey dp..... Why are you so upset.......you bought a dirt-cheap phone from Voda, which is probably heavily subsidized, and I think you say you are on Giff-Gaff?? So you Network unlocked the phone?? Same with your O2 Sony?? You gotta discount from the guy, and you switch network?? And you expect some priority kinda treatment, banging on about ICS, etc... You don't see any irony there??

No I don't expect priority treatment. I expect a phone to work and to get relevant support from it from the network and manufacturers, and for updates not to kill the phone. GiffGaff are owned/funded by Telefonica UK, so you can use their SIMs in o2 phones (derp) Other people have had issues with the phone also, similar to mine or otherwise. The difference between them and me, is that I made my voice heard in the relevant forum. Like i've already stated, if a network like O2 or Three picked them up, I'm sure the support would be much better. Even if they sold it in Phones4U (The Blaze/U8510 sold really well at its £70 price point on any network from P4U, and that was a solid Gingerbread phone with a decent development community). I'm not pinning Huawei all the blame. They do make decent budget smartphones, like I've said, the G300, Blaze and Honor are all good phones. I just believe the way Vodafone messed me around, and the lack of answers/support from network and manufacturer is incorrect. Nothing more. Edited August 7, 2012 by dragpyre
Guest irishpancake Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 What about the Ascend G300....the Vodafone one.... that SIM unlocked?? or still on Voda?? no competitor SIM in that?? BTW, thanks for the info re GG, I'm from Ireland, it doesn't work like that here for MVNO's here!! But really, I think you are getting extremely worked up about this thing, I did not know the ICS official update had even been rolled out yet, much less killed the phone!! Its not available here yet anyway, but this phone cost me just €110 delivered free, which us about £88, it is the Black/Grey model on B886 official, and I SIM unlocked for less than £10....I almost feel as if I stole the thing at that price!! I think you should chill!!

It wasn't ICS, it was an interim GB update. Thanks for your input though! :)
Guest fr0do Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 You broke the phone, then couldn't run the update. The Voda shop wallahs weren't technical enough to bail you out, is the truth of the matter. I think your complaints are a bit rich.
Guest Peninsula Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 well tried another Vodafone shop in Nottingham & they did something that seem to fix it atm(dunno what they did. went away then came back)...they said keep an eye on it. if it does it again...ebay ahoy for it. still might be tempted to get a new phone....dunno which tho. lol. was looks at a S2 lol Why put it on ebay if VF recognised there is something wrong with it? Won't you look for a refund? I hope when you sell it on ebay you state that there is a known issue...
Guest Maximus9 Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 I was gonna get Xperia U on a 2 year contract for 70 Euros but when i saw the screen angles i was disgusted, that thing fits into category with Wildfire, i'd rather get Xperia Ray if i had to go SE way. I had Wildfire before G300 and found the screen on the Wildfire was much more readable in the light, much better light sensor, and so much less glare. On the G300, even in the car, not too much light, the glare hurts my eyes. I had 2 G300, one returned 2 month ago, and still no refund. The 2nd one restarts by itself and exhibits other strange behaviours. My gf bought a g300 too, same problems, plus sometimes the phone remains ringing although you cannot see who is calling, and the only way to solve that is to get battery out. Recommended it to a friend, and same restarts and problems. So 4 phones, all with problems. That is my experience with g300. Still using it. Battery life is appalling by the way. Can't understand how the battery goes so quickly. Clean B888 on mine, B885 with update to B892 on other, but whatever ROM you use, some problems remain.
Guest John Matrix Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) I have g300 now for like month, before i had 2 x zte skate's, before that lg 540 and before that zte racer and huawei u8500 , so far i been playing with roms and i can say g300 is best phone i had from all of list ( i know its not much but those are androids not listing my old phones like Nokias and Motorols back from 1999 ) well anyhow i am thinking to buy 1 g300 for wife as well i am sad that you have so much problems with your phones people .
