Guest pwig Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Hello, im should be getting my SPV in the post tomorrow. A few things I need to know Firstly, GPRS how big is the average site that you load up? Megs wise... say BBC.co.uk Secondly, what are the essential downloads I need to get? Games or whatever.. Cheers in advance Johnny
Guest Emad Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 BBC has a special 'text-only' site that is about 20k a page. The Orange portal is very good indeed, so you'll be using that mainly - you can customise it to your own thingies too. The main thing you need to do then is to unlock your phone and get SP Task Manager and Smart Explorer from Monolithix's page.. Then look for Midnight's reg tweaks and apply those. Then get yourself a decent homescreen and turn multipress timeout to 1/2 second in the settings. Wander around and get some games to round off - emulators if you own gameboy games/NES games and want to play them. Boxy Pocket is v good, as is Tennis Addict (which you have to buy) - many other v good games out too..
Guest mcwarre Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Emad means application unlock your phone. You can also Network unlock it. Use the search facility on this site. The best way to application unlock it is over the air from the orange developers site.
Guest pwig Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Hmm.. I have got the phone, and I unlocked it. How do I put a new sound for a ringtone on there? The instruction manual says click IPSM double click application data and then double click sounds. All well and good but I dont have a sounds folder!?! Secondly how do I install a game for EG Doom? Where do I put my MP3's and Videos? Cheers in advance pwig
Guest abamara Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 In Applications Folder, right click and create 'New Folder'. Rename it 'Sounds' and transfer your ring tones to it via Activsync. They then appear in your 'Settings - Sounds folder as ringtone options. Hope this helped! Can't help about the game. Copy your music using Win Media player on your desktop and cut and paste them to your storage card via Activsync (there's another way of doing this). Mediaplayer on spv will find them wherever they are!
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Alrighty pwig, for videos and mp3, i use the storage card, and plonk them in this directory. Get to it by: 1. Put your spotless SPV into its cradle (I have a spare one if anyone wants to buy one! ) 2. Go to Active Sync > Explore > My Smartphone > Storage Card 3. Drag and drop the files you want to play/show into here 4. When in Media player they will show up in the listings Should work! Just remember to have a card in at the time!!! I have a spare 8mb one if anyone is interested.... Cheers Party
Guest pwig Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Thanks for the reply people muchos help!! It says I can use Midi Files for ringtones in the user manual, however it just plays a beep when I try to play it? Why is this? anyone else have this prob?
Guest HelloDave Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Yup - MIDI file support on the SPV is sh*te! It just about supports monophonic MIDIs, but very few polyphonic ones work - you're better off with WAVs. If you do a search there's a couple of compatible MIDI files on the forum (can't remember where, sorry!) and guides on how to convert wavs for the SPV if you're not sure (briefly - use mono, 11KHz PCM files for best quality/filesize tradeoff)
Guest Scooter Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I'm also very new to the SPV and not much of a computer wiz either so treat me gently. I also have had problems with downloading ringtones and now backdops via the active sync. I can get the ringtones and backdrop pictures into the appropriate file ie: sounds and home but they wont appear on the phone. I did finally get a wav ringtone over and plays i great but have had no success with other wav files. Can you help.
Guest Emad Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Go to settings->home screen to change backdrop once they're in app data/home. Wav files are only playable as ring tones/alarms I think. Also in settings->sounds. pwig, example of some monotonic midi ringtones for you :lol:Midis.zip
Guest Scooter Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 Thanks for that the ringtones downloaded and installed ok. But i can not get the backdrops to appear on the phone at all, although they were downloaded from this site under backdrops. so asume they are the right size and format, and they are in the folder home application data ipsm explore. The back drop i want is the one of Jennifer Anniston in a wet T-shirt you can understand my persistence . Any help greatly appreciated.
Guest Emad Posted April 14, 2003 Report Posted April 14, 2003 lol. Do they come up in setttings->home screen->backdrop? should be a .jpg file and 176x200 (I think). Have a look at smartphony for more.
Guest Scooter Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Hi Emad they are jpeg files approx 9-15 kb each but no suggestion to the physical size so cant tell i assume if downloaded from this site they should be right size! as for location backdrop does not appear any where. the backdrops that come with the phone and the 2 i downloaded from the Orange site over the phone are there and work fine. if you double click on the photo in the home folder the info given on all the photos is the same other than the kb per photo. Sorry the only Smartphony i can find is a french site, and i dont do french. speak it i mean . PS how do you get these Emoticons into the text?
Guest Emad Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 PM me the backdrop and I'll have a look. Smartphony isn't very hard to navigate, just click on skins  Also coolsmartphone.com has plenty of proper backdrops for you to put in IPSM/App data/home.
Guest SPV is crap Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Different subject but im still new to the spv so go steady. After downloading the rom update what do you have to do with it? I was told to save it on the desktop and then drag and drop into ipsm. i've since heard that this is bull 5h1t but didnt find out how to do it properly. can someone advise. thanx in advance
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 16, 2003 Report Posted April 16, 2003 Make sure the phone is on and in its cradle first and connected to Activesync. Then simply run the update on your PC and follow the instructions.
