Guest PaulOBrien Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Bluestacks, available for Windows and Mac, is a utility that lets you run Android applications on your Desktop / Laptop. It's pretty cool, but it comes with only a limited selection of apps for you to try. Wouldn't it be cool if you could just install other apps? Well, you can... and we've posted a little guide to doing so. First of all of course you need to download Bluestacks, which can be found (in Alpha form currently) on the Bluestacks for Mac site. Next, follow our guide here in the Software forum to getting 'unapproved' apps running. The instructions do require some text file editing and generally trickery and the app your installing needs to be available in a third party (e.g. Amazon) app store but they're pretty easy to follow. Bear in mind that there's a reason Bluestacks don't just let you install all and sundry, so apps may or may not work but hey, it's fun to try right? :) MoDaCo member @dnlkbox has used this method to get Zinio Android version up and running on his Mac and said 'It's upscaled to the tablet version brill!' (picture below). If you're using BlueStacks and use this guide, let us know what you install and how it runs! :) Click here to view the item
