Guest PaulOBrien Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 HTC have completed their rollout of 2.x series ROMs across their One series devices in Europe with the release of version 2.17.401.2 for the Tegra 3 equipped One X. Available now via an over-the-air upgrade, the release joins the recently rolled out 2.10.410.10 release for the One S and the 2.22.401.1 release for the One V. Across all devices performance (particularly fluidity of UI) and battery life is reportedly improved, as well as the various bug fixes and tweaks you'd expect in a second generation ROM release. One interesting feature of the 2.x ROMs is the functionality to choose the behaviour of the 'Recent Apps' hardware button. A new menu option allows the user to choose whether the button is 'Always open recent apps', 'Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps' (my preferred configuration) or 'Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu'. Although the ROM releases are available now for unbranded EU devices, Operator branded handsets and handsets from other territories will receive the updates over the coming weeks. Across the pond, the US variant One X (a.k.a. the One XL) has recently been updated to 2.20.502.7. The MoDaCo.ONE custom ROMs will be updated to the latest releases shortly! Update: We just received an official statement from HTC on the new release. As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure customers are receiving software updates that improve their user experience, we are pleased to announce our next upgrade for the HTC One X will be released on August 10th. The primary update will include an upgrade to Android version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), in addition to an improved Sense experience which will: enable the ability to map menu function to the 'recent app' key (improving visual presentation in non ICS apps like Facebook); improve tab management in the browser with a dedicated tab switching button and enhance camera capabilities such as white balance and continuous autofocus. Furthermore, customers can expect enhancements to memory, platform stability and the overall browsing experience. Other improvements include a Single Sign-On for Facebook allowing user access across applications and browsers and upgrades to Beats audio, which reflect our dedication to providing an authentic sound experience. From a developer perspective, we are expanding SDK support for Media Link and providing a framework for video call applications to achieve improved performance and quality.
