I bought an XDA charger off ebay, which is supposed to work, but it says 12 V output 400mA, 3.6W (MAX)

Will this fry my SPV?

Thanks

Who knows? Depends on how well the hardware has been designed - i.e. what protection has been added for just such occasions!

I'd kinda like to hope that it wouldn't - especially as it's likely that people will be buying car chargers which are powered from 12 volts and there's lots of room for things to go screwey there!

If you're gonna try and you do fry your phone, make sure you've got Orange care to hand and DON'T tell them that you used an "unsupported" charger :) Just plead ignorance - it's the best policy! (Well, actually, the best policy is to buy equipment that's correctly rated for your phone ;)

Are you sure it is not input voltage, since if it is a carcharger it is (as said above) designed for 12v, but the output is less (check SPV charger for correct output info..)

Well, the SPV charger is rated at 5V.

The charger I bought is a DC charger, input 100-240 Vac, 50~60Hz

Output is 12Vdc, 400mA, 3.6W (MAX). It is sold as the correct charger for the XDA/T-Mobile Pocket PC Smartphone

This is the correct charger for the SPV, although I can't help but feel a trifle nervous about plugging 12 V into something that supposedly takes 5V......and on it goes.

I decided not to use the 12V charger....turns out the nokia charger (dime a dozen) fits straight into the cradle.

I've got my charger with the adapter thingy for home use, and I even managed to buy one of those adapter things off Ebay for £2.20.

I am soooo sorted.

My battery still sucks a$$ though.....

thanks all.
