Ugh. It's hideous, that reference design. OK, the SPV's no beauty and neither is the SPVx in my eyes, but they're both way more stylish than this monstrosity.

I like the Compal/TI best of them all, antenna or no....

Navi-Roller ... Nokia had so many tech problems because of crap getting into the phone by it that they decided to not put it on any further phones. Before it went dodgy it worked really well and made navigating phone/wap pages really quick and easy. So a smartphone with a similar idea would be cool, if they could guarantee it would not go bad. Even better would be a trackball so you can easily scroll in 2 dimensions.

For left and right could the raised sides of the roller not be "clickable"?

And as its based on a reference design i think the design effort was based more around a working platfor than one that looked as "nice" as the SPV

I'd buy it ;)

At least it don't look like a TV Remote ( i'm sorry SPV).

It looks more like a calculator :? could do with some "curves" adding

mono, this is the 21st century dude. Just because it's a reference design doesn't mean it has to look horrendous or that aesthetically-pleasing design should take a back-seat.

True, but in the end i'd still rather a device worked over it looking pretty.

(And i've just noticed how shite my grammar can be )

No, but intels focus is selling the chipset, their focus was to show a full featured phone chipset running in a small as possible handset, beyond making the size small enough to appeal to other manufacturers, they don't need much in the way of making it "sexy" But then, for a reference design, I think it looks quite nice, biggest worry is that roller.

mono: fair do's, but why settle for that when you can have the best of both worlds?

spacemonkey: I see your point, but that's still no excuse for clumsy looks. Not from my point of view anyway.

clumsy looks... spose... but.

Intel path: I want something small and business like, let's just get this thing out there, working and proven.

Nokia path: Get me a graphic artist, I want a phone that's COOL. Oh crap, it's disgusting, oh well... too late now, let's just sell it to chicks.

I think spacemonkey hit the nail on the head there

I have no p[roblem with cool looks, and i'm prepared to pay a little extra for them as well, but i don't see the point if they don't perform ;)

spacemonkey: totally agree, the 3650 is gross and impractical to use. Functionality is of course more important than aything else in the end.

mono: me neither, but if the phone's ugly, I'll stick with what I have until something better-looking comes along. The Compal's dead thin (if a little taller than the SPV, if I remember rightly) and the design is clean and seems fucntionally OK. But the question's academic anyway; my SPV's here to stay and works well enough for me...
