android system recovery rebooting

I recently purchased a second hand Orange San Francisco from ebay that was faulty the problem is it keeps on rebooting into android system recovery and there seems to be no backup of stock rom

also i need to know how to find out if this is a gen 1 or gen 2 phone but as i can not install pigfish to find out is there any other way.

I would also try flashing swedish springs because as far as I know it works on both gen 1 and gen 2 then you can install Ask Mr Pigfish and find out.

Or if that fails:

If it is a San Fran it is highly likely that it is Gen 1 however, the best thing to do is to get a Gen 1 to Gen 2 TPT and flash that then you know what setup the phone has and can flash an appropriate rom.

Use TPT image from KonstaKANG ICS thread... if it's a GEN1 phone, it will update it to GEN2...if it's a GEN2, it will just repartition your cell phone
