I don't get what all the complaining is about... I also don't see the need of an entire thread for it.
Guest Dazzozo Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 I think Huawei realised it's better to ship with ICS than the ol' "Gingerbread with an ICS upgrade! Promise!".
Guest Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) I start to wondering what Huawei is doing there?! ICS for a device with only 256MB ram? This must be also a slimmed ICS version without HWA and stuff like that. Very sad, that Huawei only whats to have ICS devices to get customers, but don't deploy the software as Google intended. Guest Dazzozo Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 How is it not how Google intends? If the software passes CTS and Google approve it for the Play Store then Google has okayed it.
Guest Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) Well Google even need some tricks to get ICS running as smooth as they want it on Nexus S. All ICS apps need more memory than GB ones. For example Browser, and stuff like that. So I don't believe, Google want companys to build low memeory devices and give them ICS. I think ICS is not intented for devices less than 512 or even 384MB ram. Huawei can just achieve a fast system by disabeling parts like 2D acceleration. But either way, on such devices ActivityManager will permanently kill background processes, so that I think multitasking will not be much fun with this device. It just looks nicer, thats it. Guest Sebastian404 Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 I'm not sure why there is so much hate on this.... The Y is for 'Youth' and these devices are aimed at kids and obsessive compulsives like me They are never intended to be powerful devices, as long as you can look at the Penguin Club web site, run angry birds and play Nicki Minaj mp3's I'm sure 99.99% of their owners will be happy (maybe make calls on it too) The Y range is the bottom-end of Ascend range, G is low-end and then it moves up into mid-end/high-end Dual and Quad cores (D & P) The reason it comes with ICS is more than likely just because that's what Hauawei are putting on their devices these days, if the G300 had been released this week it would probably of come with ICS too.
Guest Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) I'm not sure why there is so much hate on this.... From my side this has nothing to do with hate. Actually I realy like that Huawei is one of the company's that focuses on software updates. The only thing just don't understand is why they not put some more Ram in Y devices (even they are low-end) when they plan to update them to ICS. Hardware costs for some DDR2 ram is really low. And other entry level phones (at least in germany) like LG P690, Acer Liquid or Motorola Fire XT all have 512 Ram. So with some more Ram in my opinion ICS would make much more sense. But maybe thats just for people to buy the more expensive phones. :( Edited August 28, 2012 by Guest
