newbie question: Updating Android 2.2 to latest version on Wind Mobile LG Optimus 2x

I have an LG Optimus 2X with Wind mobile. Wind mobile is particularly notorious for providing almost no updates and now I'm stuck with version 2.2

I know there's Cynomagen ROM for rooted access etc, but are there any other or more viable options?

Options yes, Google how to optimus 2x flash kdz, sorry for asking(never had a locked phone), won't official LG updater let you update? Btw, I posted link for the kdz updater at xda. This updater have workaround to let you pass LG if you're rooted..

Think you should give Cyanogenmod a chance... it seems crap the first few minutes you use it (like when you realise you need to flash your own gapps) but once you get used to it you find its a lot better than stock... IMO anyway. Plus I think (hope) we should be getting CM10 (jelly bean) any day now...
