Hi there

I am experiencing problems with actvivesync. After reformatting my PC and reinstalling all my apps etc I installed ActiveSync but the PC did not recognise the USB cable. I have 4 USB connections each with a cable attached, so in case there was an error on my PC i change all the cables into each connection and everything was deionised except the ActiveSync. I called Orange data dept and the response was "Sorry we don’t support active sync, sounds like a cable error, buy another one".

Damm I had the thing working b 4 i formatted no reason y it shouldn’t work now. Can anyone help? I don’t want to finance Hutchinson Telecom any more than i have to.

Thanks

Matt

Does sound like a cable problem :? Orange don't support ActivSync because thats MS's domain

(I thought Hutchinson didn't own Orange anymore)

Make sure in activsync you click

FileConnection Settings and make sure the

Allow USB connection is checked, as without it checked

the cradle will not work.

I have XP home and for some reason it forgets this setting

good old MS

If you are running XP make sure you have your service packs installed, sometimes helps, windows update usually downloads a HTC USB driver as well on new systems. It's done it a couple of times on my machines when reloading them.

Make sure you have installed active sync before you connect your SPV via USB. That helps sometimes.

Hi,

I had this problem after updating from WinME toWinXP .. turns out it was a simple driver problem. Try this, it worked for me!

Put the SPV CD in your CD drive and connect the USB cradle to the PC but leave the phone off. Open up device manager and then plug the phone into the cradle. A new device should appear on device manager. If it's the same problem I had, there will be a big yellow question mark as a device icon. Click on this and it'll tell you the driver needs updating and you should get the option to search for it automatically: do so and it'll find and install the driver from the CD.

At least it worked something like that

I think it's pretty shoddy that re-installing activesync after an update doesn't update the phone drivers automatically, but it doesn't. There you go.

Many thanks for all your suggestion, I tired all and nothing worked so I took drastic action and reformatted by HDD.

Following this I installed all then necessary drivers for the hardware I have, the did the following:

1. Plugged in the ActiveSyn USB cable with the phone in the cradle.

2. Recognised by the PC and started installation, then installation requested the driver.

3. Inserted the Orange CD and used the driver on there. The hub was installed correctly.

4. Installed ActiveSync 3.6

5. Success a relationship wizard appeared and everything went as I'd hoped.

I cannot find any reason this should not have been the case before and am quite baffled. But I hope my experience and the method of getting around the problem can be of benefit to someone else who may be experience the same problem.

Once again many thanks.

Matt
