Guest twrock Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 I'm in the USA temporarily. I'm having problems getting 3G data service with Straight Talk. So today I dropped into an AT&T store, and they put one of their SIM cards into my phone. Still no 3G connection. So, ..... are there any USA users on this board who can tell me whether or not they have 3G service? What carrier is working for you? Thanks.
Guest peelie Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 can u get 2g service? according to specs the frequency bands for pulse may not work in USA?
Guest twrock Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 can u get 2g service? according to specs the frequency bands for pulse may not work in USA? At best I can get Edge, which "supposedly" is better than 2g, but definitely not real 3g. In Taiwan I definitely get 3G, not just Edge.
Guest AdamBaker Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Edge is an enhanced 2G working on the 2G frequency bands. Most of the world uses 2.1 GHz for 3G (although there is some service on other frequencies) but the Americas use different frequencies (and it varies by carrier, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands). I believe the U8220-6 is the pulse variant that will work on American frequencies. I have taken my UK model pulse to the US and succesfully used it for voice / text but I didn't have a data plan that allowed international roaming so was limited to Wifi for data.
