Guest Rico_89 Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Well I've tried everything to stabilise my ringtone but nothing worked, so my ringtone would switch back to default every time I connected my phone to my PC via the USB cable. I know for some they can just put their mp3 in the system/media folder and that works for them, but for me nothing even shows up. Anyway if you've tried everything then give this a go and it might work for you too.. It's harmless but as usual, you press the buttons so the risk is yours. First convert your mp3 to an .ogg audio file, which is the same format that your phone uses. I would suggest the free converter I used but it put a few programs on my pc without my permission so even I am open to suggestions for a good free audio file converter. Now simply put your newly converted .ogg file on your internal sd card in the following directory: System/ Media/ Audio/ Ringtones. Restart your phone and select your ringtone as a ringtone, not music, but note that it will show up as a couple of question marks like this pic: After selecting "??" and pressing OK, give it a test by connecting your phone to your PC and see if it changes back to "default". It's not a pretty solution but if it works, then it saves you having to constantly switch back to your custom ringtone all the time. If you want to test it with my ringtone then I'll upload it here: It's from the Film Crank :) crank_ringtone.rar Edited August 31, 2012 by Rico_89
Guest TangerineTractor Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Or, use lightflow and get it to manage all the ringones, notifications etc. Have to say, I've not experienced any ringtone issues using ICS (yet) Edited August 31, 2012 by TangerineTractor
Guest Cardie Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Does it on mine, everytime I connect or restart my phone.. or even take the SD card out, everything ringtone wise goes to 'default' I use SMS pop up for my texts and even that resets to nothing! Will give it ago when I find a ogg file converter without being told to install shitsoft media players!

Anyway try the one I've uploaded in my original post, that way if it doesn't work you wont have to waist your time looking for a converter. Edited August 31, 2012 by Rico_89
Guest Faelon Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 This workaround didn't work for me. ☹
Guest Wanyal Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) There is a reason this happens. The phone keeps changing its default storage location to the internal storage instead of the SD card, and this is a symptom of the problem. It's looking on the internal storage for your ringtones, and of course, theyre not there (even though theyre still select-able in the menu), so it changes back to default. A workaround for the ringtone change this causes is to put them on both the SD and internal storage, but this doesnt solve the problem for when you want to use apps like Titanium Backup, that save files to your storage location. To make it even worse, it's not even consistent. Sometimes it changes on reboot, sometime it doesnt. Make sure your default storage location is your SD, change your ringtones, and then reboot your phone, you may find this happens. It's really irritating, and I havent found a fix for it yet. This is likely a problem with 934 and is hopefully fixed in later stock builds (if they exist) and hopefully doesnt occur in CM. Edited September 1, 2012 by Wanyal
