Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Alrighty guys, Just wondering if it is possible to keep GPRS on so that it will continually check my email inbox for messages, so, say I am waiting on an important email coming in, it will notify me as soon as it has landed on the mail server so to speak. Cheers, Party P.S. Being constantly on gprs will mean i will also receive phone calls? P.P.S. Because I am only paying for the actual info transferred will this mean it would be the same as having it off, then only logging on to check for email?
Guest Richie M Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 In answer to PS - yes, you should still be able to reciev calls but GPRS will disconnect ;) PPS i believe the cahrges will be the same
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 We'll it needs to send data to check the mail server, so it depends how often you tell it to check as to how much it will cost.
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 With regards to getting it to check the server...I know this can be done in say Outlook or Outlook express, but how can you set it up on the phone so that it, say, checks emails every 5 mins? Would be good to know. Cheers Party
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Had a look at the phone settings for email etc...would it come under the automatic synchronisation setting?... :?
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 I don't think there is an option, you'd need some third party app.
Guest kevlar Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 You can set it up to check every 15 minutes, this is what I have done. To all the registry tweakers, get digging, there must be something in there to give more control to how often mail is checked. Kevlar
Guest mobillars Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 In outlook create a message rule so that it checks for new mail every 3 mins and then create a new rule to forward the subject of all mail to your mobile as an sms using the sms/email thingy from orange. works like a charm. so when i get a new mail i recieve the subject as an sms and can then decide if i want to download the mail to the phone.
Guest cybercamel Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 I'm not into the technicalities like you guys, but for a more simple answer you can set up to receive sms messages everytime you get an email. Then it's just a simple matter of downloading them! Hope this helps.
Guest hex Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 I tried using the every 15 mins setting, and it was quite nice being able to receive emails almost as soon as they were sent, but I found the phone kept hanging. This seemed to happen when it tried to connect in a poor reception area.
Guest kevlar Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 sms/email thingy from orange Eh!, haven't heard about this before, where do you get it from? Kevlar
Guest kevlar Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Just a thought, I don't suppose Orange are sending these SMS's out for free are they? Kevlar
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Just to say that I use Freeserve for my email account...if that helps any. Don't want to set up another account, namely orange! Cheers again...may the posts keep flowing! Party
Guest mobillars Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 In denmark i got a free e-mail sms so that i can recieve sms/email on the phone like an ordinary sms
Guest iliketoparty Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Where can you get this? Does it cost much, if anything for mail forwarding? Party
