Guest cutcutcut Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 How does one go about deleting some of the included apps such as twitter and facebook? I'm on stock ICS (NZ) and am rooted. I thought one you had root you could delete the crapware/bloatware. I'm running out of room on the phone for apps, and want to clear a couple out that I don't use. How annoying is it hacing a seperate 2GB partition that you can't stick your apps onto.
Guest luvvt Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Titianium done it for me, B936 rooted and titinium pro version. Once official vf uk version comes out i am hoping Paul will do a partition swap with it as he did with ir1

Deleting the .apk's concerning these apps from /system/app using a file manager of your choosing should do the trick. ES File Explorer will work for example.

Guest Malthus Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I used ROM Toolbox by JRummy.

Guest anything-but Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Just install titanium backup from the market and remove `em through that. Just be careful you don`t go on a deleting spree and get rid of some system apps. :D
Guest nsmacd1 Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Or search the market for a tool such as 'system app remover'
Guest elperroderoke Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Maybe they are not in /system/app. They could be in /cust/*****/app (or similar), or maybe in /data/******. I can't remember the folder's names, but I now in some ROM some apps pre-installed (mostly Facebook,Twitter and Documents to GO) were somewhere else not in /system/app. Regards. Guest Malthus Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 I don't understand why people go to the bother of manually deleting apps when countless apps will do it for you. Even if you don't want an extra app for uninstalling, surely you can just install it, use it to remove the apps you don't want then uninstall it normally again. Is there some advantage over doing it by hand?
Guest bladebuddy Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 Best not to remove the apps fully just freeze them in titanium that way you still get updates and should you ever want to use them again just defrost them as they don't show on you're phone or use any ram.

Is there some advantage over doing it by hand? Deleting an apk 'manually' is not as you say a bother, in fact I find it quick and easy to do. Quicker than installing another app to do it for me by a country mile. Some people prefer their hand held while carrying out such tasks which is fair enough. Horses for courses really. Off topic but I don't understand people who use a weather widget on their home screens. I find it way easier to look out the window...

Well the reason I asked that question here and now was because of the post above mine, which would indicate it's not always as straightforward as you suggest. There was also another topic here a few days ago with someone struggling to uninstall something until they finally used ROM Toolbox, which did it instantly with no hassles. Just seems bizarre to me unless there was some advantage to doing it manually which I wasn't aware of, which it appears there isn't. Edited September 11, 2012 by Malthus

Lol can you look out the window and tell me what the weather will be on Saturday as im looking ti have a bbq. If you get it right yiu can come!
Guest droiddruid Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Look at the screen shots thread. 15 images show a weather widget. 12 just show today's weather and only 3 show any future data. I reiterate, what's the point. Any way enjoy your bbq. :)
Guest cutcutcut Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 I've tried everything except rom toolbox, I guess I'll give that a go next. I wouldn't mind them staying there so much if I wasn't running out of room.
