Guest chiefkeefe Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 In the past few days, my SPV has stopped sync'ing with my desktop. I've reloaded Activesync and checked the settings and partnership parameters carefully but still get a message saying Calendar, contacts: attention required. On following instruction to connect and reconnect, nothing changed. Orange advised me to carry out a software reset but this failed too. I've e-mailed Microsoft but am not holding my breath. Has anybody else had this problem? Can anybody suggest a solution? Thanks Keith
Guest smelliot Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 ok... I havn't had this problem before but..... It's come up with not syncing everything untill I try it a few times (Anyone else have this problem?) I take it it's been working before on your desktop or else you wouldn't have posted this? D'oh! This may not be what you want to hear, but I only had it before I hard rest and updated my SPV, since I have done that, it's worked dead on every time. You say you have tried a software reset, but have you tried the 'hard-reset' off coolsmartphone.com? The only other thing I can suggest is to give your pc a reboot, but I think Microsoft will tell you to do that  Smelliot --{Money can buy happiness, e.g an SPV}--
Guest Syvwlch Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 If you have items to resolve, usually that means that items have been changed both on the phone and on the PC between two syncs. Do you have either on the phone or on the PC, a copy of the data that you are happy with? If so, you should try to delete the other one, and then sync again.
Guest PhilA Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Have you actually clicked on the Resolve items in the ActiveSync window (it works like a hyperlink). That should show you what you need to do to sort the problem out, and normally will allow you to resolve the conflicts there and then - for example, if it's an item thats been changed both on the phone and the desktop, you get the option to keep one and overwrite the other.
Guest jenneth Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I'm new to the whole SmartPhone thing, but for Pocket PCs what usually works is deleting the partnership on the desktop and then resynching the device. ActiveSync (or ActiveStink as it's fondly called) is extremely buggy and inexplicably does all sorts of crazy things for reasons that are beyond the comprehension of mortal men. Can't guarantee it will work, but you can give it a shot.
Guest chiefkeefe Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Thanks guys. Sadly, the ActiveSynch problem described above is still there. You may recall that I reinstalled ActiveSynch and this made no difference. I also did a soft reset – again, nowt. I had already clicked on the Resolve Items error message and was merely told to disconnect and reconnect. This made no difference. Following your advice, I did a hard reset. No change … except I had the pain of resetting everything afterwards. Still, at least I now know how to do it! I then tried to delete all my contacts etc from my desktop and tried to re-synch. Same error message. Time for a cuppa … heart beginning to race and beads of sweat forming … I then deleted and re-established the partnership … again, nothing doing. So … it now seems that I have an SPV which does everything except sync’ing with my desktop. This is a major inconvenience, yet Orange don’t seem to care and Microsoft haven’t replied to my e-mail. To be fair, having both Orange and Microsoft working together on the SPV was always destined to promise much but not be very helpful if anything went wrong. Perhaps I’m just fed up … I LOVED it until it went wrong … just fickle I guess. Grateful for any other tips, please … PLEASE! Cheers everybody. Keith
Guest ljb32 Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 When active sync first came out, it was a damm sight worse than it is now. However, the problem may not actually be active sync. I assume u have tried all the normal reboots? Have you been running anything else in your USB slot? If so, try plugging in to another slot, if not try it anyway. USB under Windows is not as versitile as its made out. Does actually connect to your phone? LJB
