Guest TangerineTractor Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) I have a history of being a cheapskate - lets face it, wa all are, that's why we have G300s! Anyhow, I have an assortment of Micro SD cards, the largest being 8gb, which is more than enough for my needs. However, I was wondering if newer, better quality cards really make a difference. Are they really faster? Will it make a noticeable difference to phone performance. My cards are currently unbranded, and labelled "Micro SD HC" - so can I improve performance without spending a small fortune, and is it worth it? Also, is there an optimum way of formattign the cards for best performance? On teh phone itself maybe? Or in Windows, in which case NTFS/FAT etc, or is there a utility to format in teh best way? Guest runlevel5 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 I had a fake sandisk 8gb class 4 which never caused problems (£4) and now I have a 32gb genuine sandisk class 4 and do not notice any difference in performance (£16) even though its nearly four times the size. I think it all depends on the class of the card for performance gains, though in the real world I dunno if youd notice much of a difference. Data integrity is more important to me now and my current card is doing fine. I format through windows and do fat32.

Guest TangerineTractor Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 OK, I purchased a Sandisk 16gb UCS-1 class 10 card from mymemory.com, under a tenner delivered http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC/SanDisk/SanDisk-16GB-Mobile-Ultra-Micro-SD-%28SDHC%29-Card---Class-10-UHS-1-%2B-SD-Adapter It has made a noticeable difference in the overall responsiveness of the phone, especially taking photos and browsing the gallery.

IMO data integrity is by far the most important factor and using quality branded cards should be the best way to ensure this (as well as decent performance).
Guest tcpaulh Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Best speed improvement I ever got was by changing sd cache size to 1024kB. Can use an app like SD-Booster to do it. Gallery especially is very smooth afterwards.
