Guest mcwarre Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Let's get serious for a change, Irrespective of political rubbish. Do you support our troops in the Gulf?
Guest amo Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Hmmm, seems a slightly pointless poll. A) no saddam  saddam Hmmm....which one shall i choose now...
Guest mcwarre Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 amo, I don't think our people dying out there is pointless. Okay Poll is slightly loaded. But then so is life. All I am trying to gauge is whether people, irrespective of political rubbish, actually support our servicemen (of which I must admit I am proud to be one (going there soon)). Death is never easy. Irrespective of our political views we serve. All we ask is that we have the support and, nae, gratitude when we arrive home or make the ultimate sacrifice (watched TV lately :?: :?: I knew 3 of the HEROES returning in coffin's). Not much to ask really is it???? My actual feelings and thoughts on this would probably ban me from MoDaCo. Still you never know I might not be back to care.....................
Guest amo Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Woah, sorry to give the wrong impression, i dont think out people dying out there is pointless at all, i fully support them and my thoughtsare with them. Just seems your options on the poll are a bit strange. I mean, who is gonna support Saddam Hussein?
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 amo, Sorry mate. Just a bit toucy at the mo, for obvious reasons. If ur at the MoDaCo event I shall get u a beer!
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Sorry All, A bit emotional. Poll changed to reflect a more suitable set of options. Please forgive
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I have to say i'm in support of the men and women out there. Good luck to you mcwarre, i have full confidence in the UK military training and i'm sure you'll be fine.
Guest Rob.P Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I fully support OUR troops, I have friends and family out there, but under no circumstance confuse that with supporting this war (highly political)
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Mono, Thanks. I am interested in the reasons why someone voted no. Could they explain? Login as a guest for privacy.
Guest Emad Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Support as in not wanting them to all come home in body bags? Of course most people do - you don't want your fellow citizens to die. Support them being there? No way. Support the US/British government sending them there (whats the current reason they have? I forget, it changes so often..)? No way. Our troops are highly trained and equipped and are following orders the best they can. Some will die - thats war for you - nobody 'wins'.. Looking at the fantastic (irony) job being made of restructuring Afghanistan, I don't have much hope for stability in the Middle East after this. But I do support all our troops out there and hope that our casualties are as low as possible - lets hope that since this is started it is over soon.
Guest casper508 Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Couldn't agree more with Rob.P and Emad. Cas
Guest Richie M Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 My thoughts and hopes are with all Services Men(& women) no matter what side, soldiers are only following orders or fighting for what they believe in, so yes I support our boys - but as Rob.P said don't confuse that with supporting the war or the politics :|
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Gents, Many thanks for the support. I seemed to have unintentionally opened the perverbial 'bag of worms'.  Although I did say irrespective of the political rubbish in the first post. As for the politics.... Billy Connolly has a couple of sayings: 'The desire to be a politician should bar you for life from ever being one' and 'Politicians: don't vote it encourages them.' ;)
Guest Rob.P Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I did notice your "ignore the politics" bit, hence why I didn't launch into a small novel on the political ramifications and reasons for this war, if anyone does start a political one up there are other BBS' that deal with it if you want the URLs.
Guest Emad Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 So you were effectively asking who wants huge numbers of losses from the US/UK? That'd have to be some nasty, nasty person.. The problem with the second of Connolly's quotes is that that's what kinda happened in the US. Look where that got us  I look forward to the day where office is considered a burden and a responsibility rather than something to celebrate getting. And maybe the day where we can have a proper democracy instead of 'this is the leader of our party, we're letting our party down if we don't follow what he says'? Its not that bad here, but Bush has effectively appointed himself dictator - you're either with us or against us. Some quotes that amused me: "A dictatorship would be a lot easier." - G.W. Bush, Governing Magazine, 7/98. "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." - G.W. Bush, CNN.com, December 18, 2000 "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it." - G.W. Bush, Business Week, July 30, 2001 Hmm..
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 And maybe the day where we can have a proper democracy instead of 'this is the leader of our party, we're letting our party down if we don't follow what he says'? Its not that bad here Emad, Must take point with this. To my (vague) recollection didn’t in excess of 120 MPs vote against the Government? The largest rebellion in the commons for how many years? MPs made their point, and made their feelings well known. They are allowed to in a democracy, unlike the Iraqis. However the majority voted for action not just because the leader says so. I am sure that Tory MPs aren’t led by Tony Blair (Woa, don’t go there). The debate was held and people should respect the wishes of the majority; of course they should not alter their feelings. End of debate. P / Mono / Any Moderator, Can you please lock this topic / end poll before a right slanging match starts.
