Guest amo Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 [/end caps lock] There are several threads on the forum showing images of different handsets and specs etc already. Deciding the "best" is a matter of opinion, for example i prefer the Asus phone - but many others hate it. Or am I missing the point?!
Guest kingdom master Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 this is my favourite, the speed the clamshell and the intergrated camera. Mitac is set to join other computer companies entering mobile phone production with the Mitac Mio 8380.This phone is based on the Microsoft Smart Phone 2002 Platform and is being marketed as a "digital lifestyle" product that will allow users to do things such as browse the web anywhere, chat online, play Java games, take photos and manage their information. The Mio 8380 is triband (900/1800/1900) and supports class 10 GPRS. To take full advantage of GPRS, a cut-down version of Internet Explorer, an email client, and the MSN Messenger chat program are included. MMS messaging is also supported. The phone has an integrated digital camera (110,000 pixels), a 2.2" 16-bit TFT display and an external 64x48 display. It is also one of the first to feature a SD/MMC slot for memory expansion. Unlike other phone manufacturers, who are generally quite stingy with memory (ex. Sony Ericsson T68i had 1mb, and the Nokia 7650 had 4mb), Mitac has decided to include 32MB ROM and 16MB SDRAM. With the inclusion of the Intel Xscale 200Mhz processor, this phone is more powerful than a typical desktop computer was 5-6 years ago! The MS Smart Phone 2002 operating system is feature packed as it includes Pocket IE, WAP 2.0 browsing, Pocket Outlook email client, Media Player for playing MP3's and videos, and also supports Java MIDP 2.0. Some of the Mitac's specs are as follows: Triband GSM (900/1800/1900Mhz) Dimensions: 97mm x 51.5mm x 29.6mm Weight: 143g Multimedia Messaging MS Smartphone 2002 OS 200 MHz Intel Xscale Processor 16MB Ram, 32 MB ROM Integrated digital camera (110,000 pixels) Internal screen of 2.2", external screen of 64x48 pixels MPEG4 video encoder/decoder Windows Media Player (can play MP3 files) 3 hours talk time, 100 hours stand-by time
Guest Gorskar Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 As far as flip smartphones go, I think the most stylish would have to be the Samsung:

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I'd have to choose between the Samsung and the Asus, depends what the Samsungs keypad is like....
Guest midnight Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 is there a pic of the inside of the asus yet?
Guest smartphone-web.com Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 is there a pic of the inside of the asus yet? No - the Asus was only shown on CeBIT behind glas. I've talked to the PM and she told me that it is only a non working design-sample.
Guest mcwarre Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Asus claim "Talk time> 3.5 hrs Standby time >110 hrs " If it is anything like the SPV claim to performance ratio the Asus would need a portable generator!
Guest Rob.P Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Is there info on the Asus on their website, if so what's the link, I've been looking for an age.
Guest Anonymous Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 The only info I've been able to find on the net is what is posted above. I do hope the phone is out before my upgrade is due in November tho!!
Guest smartphone-web.com Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Sorry for you kigdom master but i dont think so. The PM on CeBIT says that the launch will be in late Q 4 2003 - so i think it will be early 2004.
Guest fraser Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 See the Asus, is that top display transparent, and it's the internal display you can see underneath it? Pretty cool...
