Guest abamara Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Has anyone out ther encountered this problem and how did you get it sorted? I finally decerted using the V2 decerter, after 10 or more attempts finally got to bootloader and erased IPSM. Decerted and ActivSync thinks we've got a new machine. So created new partnership. Home screen and then installed Smartexplorer. Runs nicely, thank you! Lovely app! Tried O homepage and then, 'dialling............GPRS connection..flashes.... then 'Connection Error'.........'ERROR - Unable to place call.....OK?' No, its not OK but iI seem to have no say in the matter. Tried other web pages, same problems! Is this familiar? Can someone help? I have done searches and called O 156 after. Gone up to level 2 tech support still no solution. They even changed the Primary DNS settings to 158.43.192.1 and the Secondary one to 158.43.128.1 Still no joy! Does this mean my phone is knackered? Everything else works but I'm lost without gprs. That said, I installed Gnuboy exe (on sd card) thru smart installer and the phone crashed when I opened it. Had to take out the battery. Smartnes exe installed but could not be opened either - 'no ROM installed' it said! Did I do anything wrong? I just unzipped the file and t/ferred it thru activsync. Phew! This is the longest post I've ever done so please respond! Thanks guys for all your help!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Sounds like you may need to try decerting again  as it sounds like the process may not have fully worked. As for gnuboy and the likes the exe file needs to be in the same folder as the Roms.
Guest martin Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 'Unable to place call' is often a problem with the allocated access point. Orange settings are shown in http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4861 To use the orangeinternet service (check you have the following) In Data Connections- GPRS connections- Orange GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access point : orangeinternet In Data Connections Internet Connection= Orange GPRS. In Internet explorer - menu - option - connections Tick Automatically detect settings. It seems that decert doesn't always work perfectly first time. If you continue to have GPRS problems then you could do a hard reset, retest GPRS and decert again. (you wouldn't be the first)
Guest abamara Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Thanks guys! I have done a hard reset and recerted. Still no gprs. Decerted again and still no joy. My settings are exactly the same as those posted above. O (156) said they've sent the matter to tech support as it might be a network error and it might take up to 10 days for them to get back on the issue. They are a pain! Anyway I'll continue to recert and decert hopefully........! It seems to get easier after the first few times.
