Guest woof Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Hi all, after my last post, which turn out to upset me as Id been stung!!! Ive decided Im going to buy a new SPV. I want you opinions though, 1.do you think Im doing the right choice, are there new phones coming out that would knock spots off the SPV or will the SPV stay one of the most advanced phones around for a while yet. 2.Im a bit worried about the battery life Ive seen, 2.5 hour talk time dont seem very good, and I will be using the MP3 alot so do people find the battery life crap.....is there anything that can be done. 3.Can word run on it??? will it ever?? 4.Will I still get good functionality out of the phone with using a O2 contract sim??? Thanks all, any additional comments will be grateful Russ
Guest philster1234 Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 :idea:Wait to see what the Nokia 3650 can do if you want a phone with a decent camera. I use the program from applian to do my camera work which is OK ish, still image that is, video clipping is awful. Even in the lower frame rate! If you want a phone to play games on, wait for the Nokia N-Gage. This seems to have lots of support from Sega, Eidos, Taito etc. The 3650 will also take an MMC card so you can store plenty of pics/videos and games, apparantly doom should work from WildPalm again on it but fingers X'd. Or if you want a phone which has camera, mp3 player and film clip player try the P800, most of these devices I have mentioned work on Symbian and are open for developers to work on them and therefore will probably have a broader base of software to use and play with!
Guest Emad Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 and are gonna be more expensive :) for the price of one of those you could pick up a PocketPC, a 2.1 megapixel digi camera and a gba.. word will be able to run on it eventually - only really be useful when it gets a keyboard tho. update increases battery life - mine's at about a day for 4 hours mp3 playback/some calls. O2 contract sim will give you everything except orange backup/update. dunno about gprs costs tho..

I agree with this except for one thing: I don't suggest the N-Gage for games. They have a very small screen and the fact that the games are on MMC will be costly. If you want a good game playing device, I suggest the P800, except for the Mem Stick Duo, which limits it's memory. Wyatt
Guest webba Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 do what im doing, flog ur spv (like i have) and wait till all the 3g rubbish comes out
Guest woof Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Whats the 3g??? Well Ive brought a SPV, brand new for only £130 now, so I could still sell it at a profit and wait for the phones suggested. I want a phone that a good all rounder, Yes, everyone likes to play around on a good game while on the train or in a meeting. And I want a good MP3 on the phone so I can listen to it during journey time (about 2-3 hours a day) with out carrying around a seperate player. And one very important thing for me it time keep and project management, so a phone that has good schedual, email, notes, etc, features will be good. So am I best with the SPV for now, or should I wait (which is to late, but like I said I can sell it at a profit!!!)
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 2 b honest guys - im sticking with the SPV!!!
Guest fraser Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I'm not waiting for 3G. Sure, the SPV has a lot of bugs, but look at it this way. On the SPV, the new stuff is: - Operating system/software - Hardware But if you wait for 3G, toss in a brand new country-wide cell network to all of the above. The early days of 3G will make the SPV bugs look like cosmetic annoyances. It's not called bleeding edge for nothing! :-) Besides...have you seen the cost of the 3G contracts? Ouch!
