Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Mines not that bad, and managed to survive dismantling without any extra damage. A lot of the paint has rubbed off around the top though :/
Guest James Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 what do you think? coins and keys? i lose track of where all my pocket rubbish is when i am oput on the town.....
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 How hard is it do dismantle? My Tanager keypad is giving up the ghost, so I was wondering if I could transplant the screen into an SPV body... P
Guest Emad Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I kept mine in the same pocket as my keys and have a wee area of scratching on the bottom of the screen. Very vexing. Aside from that, its just the paint on the corners..
Guest Anonymous Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 That's a project i'd like to try  Will (Will)- still locked out!
Guest James Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 where would you get new fronts from though?
Guest mashkhan Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 it's not as bad as mine, attempted to clean it, dust was really irritating me. Now I've got blotches on my screen where I used cleaning fluid. Not to mention the scratches I've got on the screen from my car keys. Still theres always Orange care
Guest Syvwlch Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Mine's only chipped at the bottom... the only unsafe place I put it is in the car's cupholder when I'm driving. Yes, I know, very bad of me. In an accident I could become the first SPV user with his phone grafted to his brain-pan. Wouldn't worry much about the paint, then, would I?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Whats worng with your Tanager Paul? And the SPV is very easy to dismantle...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 The 1 key doesn't always respond, and the joystick clicks at random when moving, goes left and down sometimes when I press down... P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003  I'm sure if you had a micro-tipped soldering iron and kept track of each and every pin transferring the screen wouldn't be that hard... ;p Unless you just transferred the entire guts...
Guest fraser Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 It's a bit harder than that Mono!! You need to be very skilled to remove these things, unless they are modular, in which case it won't need desoldered. Otherwise, you'll need to get one of those soldering oven thingies, first you put a line of solder on all the connections, sit the the component in the right place, then bake for a while. Uses of fan assisted overs should reduce cooking time and/or temperature according to their manufacturers handbooks. In all seriousness though, apparently you can do it in a toaster. And that's just putting the new one on, god knows how to get the original one off. SMT is a bitch to work on. Don't mess with it unless you know what you are doing.
Guest midnight Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 the joystick problem was a known concern on some t68's, thats why i was surprised everyone was raving about the joystick on the tanager  it's about time someone made a mobile with a small trackball, you could have a mousepointer again then
Guest fraser Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Midnight, that's a blinding idea. I'd settle for a laptop pointstick though, I've grown to quite like them now, as good as a regular mouse after a few years practice. Plus I love the fact it lives in the middle of the keyboard.
Guest midnight Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 oh, and if a mobile comes out with a trackball i want 10% you read it here first folks hehe
