Guest purplegreendave Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 What's the best ROM for every day use? I favour speed & smoothness over anything else. An ICS ROM would be nice, but GB would be fine. I'd like to use:GApps - Gmail, Calendar, Play StoreNavigationMusicFacebook etcTether (I don't mind if it's native or 3rd party, as long as it works) Youtube & FM radio aren't deal breakers for me - I don't listen to the radio and amn't fussed watching videos on a screen that small. Is the KonstaKANG ROM a decent fit for what I want? It looks, from searching around, to be the best suited ICS ROM for me at least, but I can't find anything comparing it to GB ROMs for smoothness & speed? Also, I bought the phone second hand - will the PigFish app recognise if the phone was originally Gen1 and upgraded or how does that side of it work?
Guest The Stkfigure Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 ICS is smoother compared to GB. For ics I'd suggest the KonstaKANG, And for GB, id suggest swedish snow, by KonstaT.
Guest Tight Git Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 Pigfish will tell you what generation it shipped with
Guest cowscrubber Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 If you want something that works 100%, meaning Youtube HQ works etc, stick to GB. If you want a more recent version of Android, I suggest you skip ICS and go straight to JB. Recent builds of JB are smoother and more stable than ICS, and even smoother than GB, imo.

Totally agree with him, but if you have a chinese blade, then i would suggest only GB. In GB there are some cool ROMs too which are much faster. Try LeWa or Lezo roms. (search in topics)

Completely not true! ICS is much more stable and bug free for everyday use (read the comments, if you don't believe me) and it is very possible that JB will never be that good. The JB ROMs are experimental, for advanced users and not for everyday use (that is what the devs are warning you about in ROM's description). If you want 100% working phone, fast and no bugs - Swedish Snow (GB 2.3.5) is the best ROM. For ICS 4.0.4 (with some minor things not working and few possible bugs) - KonstaKANG CM9 is best. :) Edited October 2, 2012 by elrond_bs

Not to start an argument, but I suggest you also try JB, if you haven't, before jumping to conclusions. In my experience, bugs in ICS roms have rendered many apps unusable, and these bugs I don't experience in JB.
Guest The Stkfigure Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 It's actually based on the user. ICS by KonstaT has more features overall. Rest is just dependant in how you use your phone. CM10 or jellybean by KonstaT is smoother though. I use my phone pretty much like you describe your use, and I'm on CM10 by KonstaT, I didn't have any trouble at all. I flashed the 160Mb system TPT, and now I have ample internal memory. The only problem with JB is that the video recording is at low fps and resolution. Overall, I'd suggest JB, the KonstaKANG. _________________________________ Hit thanks if I helped. @the_stkfigure on twitter.
Guest elrond_bs Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) Still, I think there will be few more months for JB to be improved, before it is recommended for everyday use. Just expect some possible problems with it (ex. ringtones or alarms not ringing, navigation not working) - yes, some people have them, some not, and some have no such problems on ICS, but on JB or vice versa. As we all agree, GB (Swedish Snow) is the most stable and in my opinion is fast enough and best if you don't want to risk. Also you can install ICS theme for it. :) Edited October 3, 2012 by elrond_bs
Guest purplegreendave Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Sweet, thanks for all the input. I think I'll try ICS first off to keep it consistant with my tablet and see how that works out. Maybe when there's a more stable JB build for the touchpad I'll update both and roll from there
Guest ZTR Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 It's actually based on the user. ICS by KonstaT has more features overall. Um what..? ICS is no longer getting updates caused the CM team has moved to JB and thus JB has more features than ICS :P And yeah I would recommend KonstaKANG CM10 for daily use as I use it and have no problems...

Guest Snap.IT Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Pigfish will tell you what generation it shipped with Only if it's gen1 or gen2. Use blade checker instead.
