Guest xanadu Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 How about a descent MP3 Player ? The Windows Media Player is crap. On my Ipaq I can fast forward and rewind tracks on Media Player. Can this be done on the SPV ? Can we have a pause function so I can go back to where I was on a track after I have made a phone call or done some work ?

Guest xanadu Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Does this DIVX thing play MP3 ? Looks as though it does play MP3 :) Time to read old threads and find out how it works
Guest W0lveRine Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I personnaly don't agree with people complaining about the mp3 player. I don't know if it's thanks to the headset or the soundchip but the soud quality is FABULOUS ! I've been listening to a lot of mp3 players and the sound quality of the SPV is by far the best. So my advice is start a little enjoying what you got :)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 the soud quality is FABULOUS ! I've been listening to a lot of mp3 players and the sound quality of the SPV is by far the best. Please tell me you're being sarcastic! Either that or you've been trying some crap mp3 players! :) I heard an iPod last week and although I HATE it with a passion (form over function) the sound quality was (predicatably) a lot better than the SPV. No matter what the bitrate of the files you play on the SPV, my Discman p***es all over it in the sound quality stakes!
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Check this place out http://www.fmod.org/ It's a free library that compiles at least for smartphone that will decode mp3/ogg vorbis/mod files... pretty much any sound file. It's aim is to be a library that you can use in any games or apps on any platform to provide playback. They have a demo frontend but not one that works on smartphone. Someone could probably knock together a player type frontend for this to provide a good media player for SPV. Being able to use ogg etc would be very cool.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Sounds good spacemonkey - like you say, now we just need a frontend for it. I would have a go but I've only just started grappling with Smartphone programming in C and i'm having problems even writing a string to the screen without errors, so I might be a while! :) Media player works OK for audio apart from a lack of FF/REW; the problem is that the sound chip in the SPV isn't the best so it's never going to be a match for a dedicated player, but we can come close!
Guest cyrilthefish Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I agree, the built in media player is useless :/ good points: -good sound quality bad points: -no pause button (what were they thinking?) -no fast forward/rewind (the SPV has loads of buttons, i'm sure they could have fitted this in!) -no playlist editor (yes, you can make .asx playlists, but it's not really possible without a PC) -doesn't even play files in alphabetical order! (putting numbers in front of each filename has no effect. could function as a low-tech playlist replacement if it ordered the files properly) the media player seems like an un-finished bit of software to me :S
