Thst would be a good feature, I even thought of it before... Yep, rapid flashing when a message is received...

Not sure about that - surely "useful application for annoying LED" goes against M$'s SmartPhone certification requirements? Programs aren't allowed to have a quit command after all...

Getting back to the topic - is this possible with software? I seem to remember someone saying the Compal smartphone didn't have an LED, so it won't be part of the core OS. Because it continues to flash annoyingly even when the rest of the phone hangs and requires battery removal it looks to me like it's not directly controlled by the CPU - otherwise wouldn't it stop flashing when the rest of the phone hung? It would need some detailed knowlege of the SPV's inner workings to do this I think, but if someone did develop a LED disable app I'd be one of the first to download it

errr, when you do a hard reset, the led doesnt come on until its loaded from windows as it boots i believe

hopefully there is a way of doing it, cos i'd like to have the led flashing red in our racing game when in range of a police speed trap so you can slow down before you get there (just like those speed camera detector thingies)

That could be because the spv only starts to search for a signal once windows has loaded, thus flashing the led? I'm only guessing of course; you can probably get at the LED through some ARM assembler but that could be tricky because it's a proprietary HTC feature.

errr, did you not notice that while doing the UK update the led was not on at all, even when in the cradle charging?

You can be pretty sur ethat the led is under windows control. Why it continues to flash when the rest of the phone appears to have hung could be because it is being toggled within a timer interrupt (this is the most likely case) and whilst the main operating system has crashed, the interrupts are probably still tipping away happily, completely ignorant of the rest of the software!

Seen this sort of situation before on other software I've worked on. Interrupts should be used only for initiating tasks, not (generally) for *doing* them - especially in embedded devices!

Once or twice my phone has crashed while charging in the cradle - the led stayed on as if charging after i had removed it from the cradle (and the screen light stayed on too) - it was a really hard crash I suppose. Anyway it kind of points to software control of the led if anyone still doubts that...

Hi,

I mighty be totally off course here, but if you go into Sound Manager, and then Create a new iMelody, then go effects under the menu, there is a option to turn the LED on or off, as well as the backlight.

I never actually managed to get this to work... but I am guessing it shows the LED can be controlled by software.

I like the sound of this game midnight!

has anyone ever got that option in i melody to work? i was thinking of that exact same point as i read this thread. BUT i think the LED option in the i-melody refers to the LED that lights the keyboard as opposed to our flashing little friend.
