Guest mrjuglas Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 Just saw Arne Hess's post on changing T9 language input without changing the UI - great for multilingual bods like myself but with this method it still involves a registry tweak and then a soft reset to change the input language for a text. Now I'm no programmer but maybe there's a multilingual programmer out there who fancies making an app to quickly tweak this setting so people can send an English text one minute and then one in another language without too much hassle...? I know the topic's been brought up before but I bet there's quite a number of people who'd find it useful... Here's a link to the original article if anyone's interested: http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1163
Guest madu Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Agreed!! Especially if there was a way to manually edit the T9xxx.DLL's!! I wanna use an unsupported language!!
Guest midnight Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 yeh, i saw this a while ago, just couldnt find a use for it, i just couldnt understand why anyone would want their homescreen in one language and send text messages in another. But yeh, an app to switch t9 dll's would be handy, of course, really this should be built into the sms/mail program anyway to easily switch, maybe a suggestion to ms for the next smartphone os
Guest mrjuglas Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Maybe the Orneta Notepad people would like to have a go...? It would help their product become first choice for editing and sending and editing sms and email - which I believe it already is for some people although I haven't yet had cause to try it personally, I'll post a suggestion in their thread.
Guest midnight Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 yep, its real simple to change reg keys, so i reckon they'll do it.
Guest madu Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 The changing of regkey is not a big deal, it's the powercycle that is a problem... And this seems to be built into OS architecture - it loads t during boot, so.... PS: Just had a thought... When you change the language in settings it does not (if I remember correctly) need a powercycle - so it must 're-register' the default one by running some command??
Guest mrjuglas Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Yes, the powercycle bit was what had me worried, but it sounds like you may be onto something there MU
Guest mrjuglas Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Actually, no... you still need a powercycle if you do that, looks like we've hit a major problem...
Guest madu Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Hmmm, unlucky... Well, I hope they look into that in Ozone// [rant mode] You know, I sometimes get so p***ed that MS overlook stupidly some basic things! It's often like a burger without meat! Like inability to SMS contact no's.... ^$%^% [end mode]
Guest dearsina Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Can "foreign" language DLLs be copy-pasted into a E200, or SPV for that matter? We could set up a language DLL repository and save a lot of headaches when typing T9. sina multilingual-london
