can i apply update if a new version of CM9 appears

can i simply boot in recovery and go apply update from zip if there is a newer version of cm9? i have already installed the last available version

you need to pass by rom manager to do an automatic "update" (not really an update cause its reinstall the last builld entirely and not the file that changed)

how to update cm9:

1. Download the new rom.zip
   
2. boot into CWM
   
3. "wipe cache partition"
   
4. "install zip from sdcard"
   
5. restart the device
   

After this yout device is up to date and your user data still there

but sometimes new versions aren't compatible with the data from older versions, so do a backup or make factory reset if your phone bugged
