Guest Mattmac Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Hi, Can any recommend either an app or some step by step instructions for usb tethering between my G300 and an android tablet please? There's loads of info and tethering apps out there but they're all geared towards using your android phone's internet connection on windows, mac or linux. (Yes, I know android is linux based but I haven't managed to get a linux version to work.) Every app I've tried sets up fine on the phone and tells me that tethering is on but I either haven't a clue how you direct the 'non-host' device to use the usb for an internet connection, or the only software is pc/mac based. Both devices are rooted and running ICS. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! ;)
Guest Hogweed Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) Does the android tablet not have wifi? All you would normally do to tether a tablet to the G300 would be to enable tethering via wifii hotspot in the system menus (on the phone) and then (on the tablet) connect to the wifi hotspot you just set up . No need to download any apps or use usb cables that way. Edited October 23, 2012 by Hogweed
Guest Mattmac Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Thanks for the quick reply! :) Yes, That is the simplest solution but I'd really like to conserve power by using a wired usb connection if possible.
Guest holtend Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) A quick google came up with this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mstream.easytether_polyclef&feature=related_apps There are probably free alternatives Edit like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.svtechpartners.wifihotspotdemo&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dtether+tablet+over+usb ?? Guest PACOSH Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 some cheaper android tablets dont recognize usb connected tethering device.. just sayin

Guest nick_sub Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Try clockworkmod tether. It's free for 14 days and your network won't see it. I found it was OK, but I ocassionally had to reload pages when they got stuck. It was better than all the others I tried though (Barnacle for example didn't work at all).
Guest k123456 Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 Thanks fro reply folks reason i asked is a mate of mine has a three branded phone and was hit for massive data charges, when they discovered he tethered, maybe the chances of them detecting tether are higher on a three branded phone My phone is g300 with Tillaz's infusion ics, limited data allowance My wifes is three branded s3, with unlimited data, would like to use the s3 to tether, as unlimited data on that one I was curious to see if a three branded phone, has some kinda tether monitor built in Will try CW tether
